Purigen vs carbon

I've been thinking about replacing my carbon with purigen. Does anyone have experience with purigen? Any pros or cons I should consider?

Alot of people run both purigen and chemipure on nanos. Makes the water super clear

Use purigen but be sure to replace it when its spent. Dont want nitrates and impurities to leach back into the water.

A protein skimmer is more efficient than purigen I feel like.

I've used both carbon and purigen. I re-charge my purigen with bleach.

I don't see much difference in effectiveness between carbon and purigen, though carbon is cheaper in my experience. I do find that the hassle of washing/replacing carbon is much less than regenerating purigen. I finally tossed the bag of purigen that I've been using for the last year or so.

Both are products that use a small porous media to capture dissolved organic matter and other waste in the water.

I have used both as well.

Purigen has very consistent grain size and can be regenerated.
But regenerating is a hassle, and not always clear when or how many times you can do it.

Carbon varies a LOT by brand, so you really need to be more specific.
My preference is BRS ROX 0.8
Small consistent grains, and almost no dust. Expensive, but you use a bit less.

Then there is the whole discussion on reactors, bags, and so on.

Opinion:
I think the only thing that really matters is when you forget to change it.
The chemical differences are in the noise compared to that.
