Purple Non Sulfur Bacteria

PNSB is a common additive in backyard koi ponds, septic tanks and sewage treatment plants since it works good plus works in no oxygen environments. A bud of mine uses PNSB in his RV when he’s out traveling in the outback..I remember when @Alexander1312 was cooking up batches and I do believe it may have been one of the causes of his tank bottoming out cause it works too good especially treating ponds with large koi.. Just gota feed a bit extra when using which seems contradicting as mentioned already from a bar member..

Yeah as long as you don’t go crazy with it you’re good. I work in research and it was for an experiment that involved nutrient control but that got pushed to the back burner. However I wanted to keep going with trying to get the bacteria nailed down in case they were to bring the experiment back.

Its “ALIVE” Ha… Ive seen it sorta like a dark purple pearlescent color in Koi ponds when added.. But kayaking on Mono lake several years back we observed more of a magenta/pink red color around some of the bubbling springs rising from the water and along the shoreline which was striking contrast .Also the ponds at my local sewage plant turn redish at times especially during the summer months which I guess the warmer water proliferate the bacteria. Seems the more salt concentration the more red color vs fresh water more dark purplish from my own observations but Im far from a biologist. If you ever drive around the great salt lake in the summer or drive to Antelope Island the white salt rimmed with red pools is beautiful when in bloom..But word of warning that whole area is covered with biting gnats which insect repellent does not work lol so them hats with smaller netting made for gnats is the only sure thing lesson learned camping on that free range buffalo desert island! These are not my pics but shows what some of the colors are like.

The one used for the hobby is a bit more red than purple like mentioned above. My next goal is also playing with the vitamins and seeing what I can manipulate.
