PVC connection

I would like some suggestions. I need to thread a 2" elbow. To get the clearance I need, I would need to tightened the elbow to end of its thread. That is not going to happen so I thought about cutting the threaded pipe to the length I need. I am concerned that I cannot screw on my elbow if I do that. Another alternative is to put alot of adhesive to the threaded pipe and glue it to a slip joint elbow. Which method will yield the most successful result?

There are threaded PVC elbows for sale. Online, and a few at Lowes and other hardware stores.
I would not try to thread PVC. Likely to get thin and crack easily.

Gluing slip to thread would work with the right adhesive.
But silicone and solvent based PVC glues are the wrong adhesives.
I would sand the PVC and use epoxy, but there are probably specialty adhesives.

Any more details? There might be other ideas.
