Razor Blades

Can I use a razor blade to lightly scrape hardening algae off my glass? It seems like it would work in theory since my mag-float can no longer get it off.

I used to use razor blades a lot on glass. they work well as long as you don't press hard and more importantly don't go sideways- only go straight up & down. Because once I got a small scratch from them, barely noticeable, I now only use a metal blade on the Kent scraper. I feel it's safer to use since I don't have to worry about scratches no matter which way I scrape.

Yeah, it should be safe. I do it all the time for auto detailing. I would just try to keep your angle of incidence no larger than 30 degrees with the glass.
