RBTA?

Trying to decide whether to get one of the RBTA on RC. My tank has a couple spots for one, but is pretty packed. How much damage would it do to other corals if and when it moves? Would probably be better to wait until the new tank is up and running when there's more room, but we sure would like to have one (now). Impatient, I guess. Opinions?

Yeah, I'd probably wait until your new tank is up; add the RBTA first, let it do its roaming around and go ahead and add other stock :) This way you won't need to worry about it damaging, or killing any corals.

It's hard to pick a spot for these guys - it's pretty likely that no matter where you put them, they'll go and find another spot they prefer. Mine seem to like having their foot either in a crevice or attached to the underside of a rock - and then stretching out and up when the lights are on. So yeah, best to put the BTA in first and let it settle before adding anything else.

The other problem I ran into wasn't the moving around - mine picked a spot and didn't move for 2 years - it was the size it grew to. I think RBTAs tend to be smaller than GBTAs, but it's something to keep in mind. I thought I had corals far enough away, but when my GBTA grew to the size of a dinner plate, it started touching things all around it. We finally set up another tank just for the clowns and BTAs. :p

The problem with RBTA is the "death circle" it creates around it, and the fact that it moves that death circle around with it.

As suggested, put the RBTA in first (MAKE SURE YOUR PUMPS INLETS ARE COVERED WITH FOAM!!!) and let it settle. Make sure all pumps are where you want them and that the lighting is what you want and that your rockwork is "finalized!"

My RBTAs really limit the area that I can place other corals. They have mostly settled into their own sports, but they prtetty much leave only the left side of my tank for other corals. Of course aiptasia has no poblem living amongst the RBTA!

THEY WONDER SO MUCH! One day they will be on the sand, next the rock, next your power head! Anything in it's path will be trampled with stinging fury and die! It will suck you brain coral out! And make sure when you but it that it isn't bleached! :) Good Luck!

Agreed Steve. I tried one a while back and he left a path of destruction in my tank till he finally decided where he wanted to be (right beneath my huge efflo). Resist.
