Reducing the tank flow at night

Does anyone do this? I was thinking of turning off my two main flow pumps at night to allow for longer feeding times and calmer waters and have then come on in the morning. I would still have my return pump running and two small powerheads, probably reducing the flow by half. would this be bad for my SPS and LPS?

I hate to say this.... "but it doesn't work like that in nature...." :D

In reality though, by making the waters "calmer" you might also restrict the total amount of food that gets to corals.

I didn't think of that I just thought slower water should let the corals trap more food. Well another good reason to ask before trying. Thanks ;-)

I slow mine down during the part of the day and the evening so I don't have to listen to the noise of the Vortecs at full power. Also I am on a time of use Electric meter so it helps me limit power usage during peak usage hours. I rum my MH from 5am- 12pm for the same reason.

JAR's reasons are the only ones I can think of to turn your flow down at night. IIRC it was found (but no source so dunno) that it doesn't realistically replicate nature.

I have three Tunze 6100's running in my tank at 80% power during the day, at night the photo sensor automaticly lowers the output to about 30% I havn't seen any change to the corals health by doing this-BUT, I have read that the seas do not calm down at night so I am not mimicing the oceans constant flow.

My PG&E bill dictates that my powerheads need to slow down abit :D
