100%. Feeding questions and data to ChatGPT or Llama (hosted via meta.ai or one of the self-hosted variations running the open source model) or DeepSeek does give useful answers to reefing questions, and almost certainly are what anything like this is actually built on.

$60 a year for that is cheaper than an OpenAI / Google AI subscription, but less useful. However $60/yr for that is $60/yr more than using meta.ai ($0). Self-hosting a model though involves buying really expensive GPUs, so at least better than that.

[Source: I work at one of those companies, though not directly on those core models. I also have paid memberships to all those b/c it's worth playing with the tech, and I use them for various things including aquarium cases. I've been debating seeing if I could write a LLM-bot integration for this forum to answer questions, but ... time ...]
 
I saw this was promoted by Hilary from saltwateraquarium with a video interviewing one of the devs, and reminded me of it again. Now that we are a few months later I wonder if anyone has any additional experience with it? I also noticed they added a 12-month plan for $25, which is more reasonable. AI-driven everything is so disruptive it’s hard to know if any app or chatbot out now will have 12 months of staying power anymore. Moving a lot faster than me keeping up with tank maintenance and moving corals off racks anyway.
 
Just speaking for myself, it wouldn’t be one or the other, it would be both. Not much overlap in what I get out of BAR vs what I’d hope to get out of the app.

Anyone here using it? Care to share thoughts? I imagine the hot-takes that influencers give after a couple min would be less informative than a real person who has been using it for a while who doesn’t have conflicting interests.

I downloaded it a while ago and played with it for a couple days. Haven't opened it since.

I did the seminar with Andrew and Eli at Reefstock Denver, I like it, I like the ICP calculator and all that especially if you use captiv8. But like Eric said, I havnt opened the app since, but I’m also a different kind of reefer, lol
