Richie's 48x24x12 frag tank

Yes. I'll upload it to maker world. What size do you need? Width and height particularly. It's embedded in a giant fusion 360 file I have with all my aquarium thing. I can easily export a copy of various sizes, but distributing the raw original is more difficult.
I think originally size looks good. My tank is also 48x24”. Thank you!

Partial frag tank shot. I think this is the first time I've ever grown out numerous colonies at once; especially acro colonies.

Monti eating nudis seem to be under control. Not really sure what changed, besides the wrasses getting hungry because my avast feeder got a bit plugged up.

Some corals are semi bleached. I blame that on my media reactor having been offline for a bit, and a giant chalice (unpictured) causing chemical and stinger attacks.

I've also somehow developed aptasia. I think I might've had it for awhile and my peppermint shrimp might've died off (it's always hidden in the giant Monti) allowing them to proliferate a bit. I just went through a F aptasia round and will give that another try at some point. Given it's a frag tank I could also start pulling things out and giving them a peroxide scrub, but not doing so yet.

Creating a new thread for my new frag tank. This will replace my 30 gallon lagoon with the main desire being a bigger sump which then meant a bigger stand which then meant a bigger tank. I want to have the tank have a bit less crap in it.

Starting things off, I built a sump (original sump thread). I originally was going to buy one, but I have a diy roller and none of the ones I saw seemed to be laid out well for that, and they're crazy expensive. Then I looked into buying the kits, and those had similar issues. In the end I decided to use a 40 breeder and design/print my own baffles. It's turned out a lot better than I was expecting.

This was my first time doing siliconing, and it turned out good enough. I am waiting for the final panels to dry and will tomorrow give it another test to ensure the return pump water level baffle is secure and water tight. I have tested it once already and it worked great, but I had to redo it because I put the baffle in the wrong spot.

Next up will be getting the display in place and plumbing.
That’s neat! Have a link to the print files? I have a 29g, if I can print up a kit and glue it up I can donate that with an HOB overflow to they guy who posted about the classroom tank!

Looks great, nice job!

let me track em down. They're all sized for a 40gallon breeder though. Certainly could be resized/scaled.

Has worked for me so far with no issues. The plastic does bow, but so far has held up well.

Do you use fusion 360 or anything like that? I could try and export the original.

Thank you! Any format will work, I can convert as needed! As for sizing differences I’m sure I can figure that out

Here's a fusion 360 and a step file version. I didn't test those exports, but those are the pieces I used. There's a baffle in there by the drain, but I didn't actually use that. I glued them together with epoxy, then siliconed them in place.

Make sure to do a water safety test to ensure your return section block is water tight to ensure only the amount of water that you want can go out of the return. I did that by rubbing additional silicone on it. However next time I'd of tried to just do it with more layers of PET-G.

Honestly though, it's an interesting project, but burns through a lot of PET-G. I debated multiple times to just buy a kit.

Easier to just buy a kit it seems but I’ll give it a try, will need a lot of tweaking to make it fit properly… hmm

Definitely easier to buy a kit. I stayed this route because I wanted it setup a particular way, otherwise I'd of probably bought one of those eat overpriced kits.

I have a CNC now which I think is more appropriate, but I can only cut small things...

Colonies and acros are really growing out now. Visibly bigger every week.

My tanks are almost completely on auto pilot now. Due to work+personal travel I'm consistently leaving the tank for a week or so, and beforehand topping off containers and food and don't do anything otherwise. Two weeks back, before a trip, I did a big attempt at attacking the aptasia breakout that's starting, and generally cleaned things up again. Got rid of a bunch, and did another MEN clean out.

I think at this point my solution to aptasia would have to be berghia nudis, which almost certainly would get demolished by my wrasses. If anyone has had success with that combo lmk. I could section of a piece of the tank for the wrasses, or catch them and put them temporarily in a holding tank, but I don't want to do that.

This is really my first time with major acro success, and I know at some point I'll have a crash again, but in a good and happy place now.

All those colonies were grown from single sticks.

Also my goniopora is very very happy. I'm in a weird place with it though, because it's overgrown the egg crate the plug was on. It's now a goniopora ball, covering the top and bottom of the plug and egg crate. I'm wondering if I could hang it that way higher in a display and have a floating goni ball, and if that would be cool or weird.

Final shot, nearly FTS, but from the far end away from acros. In retrospect I have no idea what I'm going to do with this giant chalice. Bought it large; it's gotten larger. Takes up a ton of space and I don't think I can fit it in my display unless I make part of the display all about it. If anyone wants it, please make an offer.

Don't recommend Berghia with wrasses either, the yellow one and pink streak I had wiped them out.

Tank looks amazing despite the pests!
