Cali Kid Corals

Rose Anemone - VS - Marron Clown

Ok just got this little Rose Anemone, and my Maroon which is bigger than this little guy is trying to become "One" with the Rose Anemone. Do I need to stop this? Is he gonna hurt the Anemone? Irritate it before it'll even relax?

Ok just put him in a clear plastic container. How will I know how big it'll have to be to let it go in the tank?

Now the Maroon, is becoming "One" with my Bubble coral again :(

I swear this clown has A.D.D.!

I wouldn't risk it until the anemone 2x the size of the fish but that's just me. If you feed the anemone, it will grow very fast. Don't over feed it though. For me, once a week is good enough. Feed it whatever you feed the fish no need for special food.

BTW, look like you got a really nice anemone (saw picture in the other thread)

Thanks, he's a really deep dark red. He looks a bit molested after 30min of the clown trying to sit on top of him, but he's looked better in his cup now :)

I've seen Maroons suck on the tentacles, bite on them, and basically annoy it into remission. They're the one fish which makes my Tomato clown seem like a nice calm fish :)

Yeah mine was sucking the tentacles, he went kinda crazy when he saw it. Guess he was just a bit too happy. It looked like he was trying to get it to open up and he thought he could just flatten it enough by laying on it or pull it open by pulling out the tenacles?

I normally try and get an anemone that is three times the size of the clown. I would do this especially for a maroon, as they do tend to be larger, and can unintentionally pummel the anemone to death.

I don't know about what is being said. I guess every person has their own experienves. My gold bands bite and molest my anems all the time. even when they split the clowns still go nuts on them and my anems are fine. I have never seperated the anems from the clowns. My opinion on this matter is the clown will do it's job and take care of the anem and not kill its future home. But thats just me. I started out with 1 rose and ended up with 17. I have been giving them to local fish stores for credit lately. I believe that if the clown is grabbing food and trying to get food to the anem he/she is trying to help it and not kill it. If he/she is not doing that then yeah it will ignore it and probably kill it. mine did this to my purple long tentacle when I got my rose. she took all the food out from the purple and gave it to the rose. finally the purple ended up dying and the rose ended up getting huge and splitting off. Also I only noticed this with maroon clowns and not any other type of clowns.

This is good advise you're getting. Clowns will love your anem to the point where the anem wont settle down. I've read, too, that the clown should be no more than 1/2 of the size of the anem. So be patient (easier said than done).

You can use a berry basket, or drill holes in a med size clear container, with a top, with lots of holes in it to let the light into the container and place some large rubble in it to weigh it down and to give the anem a good purchase. I had 2 rose anems with a tomato clown that worried the anems a lot and the clown was only 1/3 the size of the anems. My black and white clown is getting along really well with my purple macrodactyia doreensis anem that is about 8" inches across, and even at that size, they both took getting use to one another.

Good luck with your critter friends.
