Second Tank

I'm thinking about setting up a second tank, possibly tied into my existing system. The idea is to keep something in this tank that I can't keep in the community reef. Some ideas I've been considering:

- Seahorses
- Fish Only/Aggressive
- Cuttlefish
- Macro Algae & Garden Eels

Other suggestions? What sort of non-community reef tank would you keep?

If it is going to be tied into your main system, the other tank inhabitants need to have similar requirements as the main tank. I would do a fish only aggressive tank. My wife wants a tank with a lion fish puffer and eel.

Problem with going with a FO type tank tied in (especially aggressive), is they'll more than likely poop quite a bit more, so make sure your filtration is up to snuff with another tied in tank. Seahorses would be a cool choice, but will you have the time to keep them fed appropriately?

Giant frogfish :D

macro algae & inverts....you could get all different types of crabs & shrimps and not worry about them stealing food from corals. call it a 'souped up' refugium.

Another tank I've thought about is a shallow look-down tank. I'll make it like tide pool w/ star fish, bta's, corals, clams. I really like the one's in Aquatic Collection, but I imagine any sturdy pond-type container would work.

good idea, also consider the slanted front panel glass to give a great top down view. Melev made one, check out melev's reef for info on that approach.

Also, the talk by Paul on Aquascaping might give you a few ideas, I heard the talk w/ Arnold and liked how Paul had some unique tank pics, including tanks that were all one species of coral; such as acans or zoas. Another idea I kicked around is to have a 'movement' tank, and put corals that you like that move in the current like galaxia, frogspawn and the dreaded xenia. It would make a great contrast sitting next to an SPS 'static' tank.

Gold Dwarf Moray Eel/s $$$ but so coool.

When I was starting up I was debating between normally kept fish, wartskin frogfish (less normal), and Golden Dwarf Moray Eels (fairly rare and expensive) since it was my first tank, I went the easy well paved route :)
