One way to dose Phosphate would be to put some Chaeto in a filter sock and let it die and decompose. Just thought of this - have not tried it.

I think that would affect Nitrates more than phosphates. I've done a few "black out" treatments for hair algae recently and each time it shoots up my Nitrates as the algae dies.

What, if any, is the advantage of the powder stuff over something like the AB+, or is it just personal preference?

Could that be caused by the algae having been sucking up nitrates until they lose the light and photosynthesis? I think the idea of putting chaeto in the sock would be for it to break down, but then I’m not sure if that would release nitrate or phosphate.

Someone with spare chaeto could put some in rodi and then measure the N and P after a week and see what it breaks down to

Nyah... I think reef roids just irritate my corals. so now, I soak for awhile before administering... seems to have helped

I think reef roids is great. You just can't use it all the time

I only target feed reef roids about 20 minutes before I do a water change.
