put it in a bucket of fresh cold water for a few days...that should kill everything on the rock....then cure it for a few weeks in your empty tank

Thanks, should I scrub off the algae hair and anything thats left on it before I put into tank?

I just wanted to clarify on the time to cycle question. I got some really good well cured live rock and added some.... bio something-or-other to help jump start the tank along with live sand. I saw an initial spike within a few days and things seemed to calm down withing a couple of weeks so I jumped the gun and added some cleaning crew and a couple of fish but saw some cycling immediately after. Now that I look back I should have still waited several more weeks.
