Went out last Sunday to shoot around Potrero Hill / China Basin area with a group of friends (Part of the group I started called San Francisco Bay Area Shooters), here's a few remaining soldiers at the end of our night:

I took the picture by using a remote shutter release, setting my aperture to F22, and having my friends stand as still as possible. Then I took a really bright tactical light and "painted" the letters backwards (which is hard). Took two tries to get it perfect. Of course I'm moving too fast to actually be in the picture, so it worked great. After I painted the letters, I ran behind the camera and then shined the light on their faces and bodies a bit too. It was a for fun shot, but quite interesting. Full size shot can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kinetic/373072796/

While exploring potrero hill, the only really neat shot I took was this oil trail:

So then I moved on and went over to the new UCSF Mission Bay campus and took a few abstract / architecture shots with my fisheye lens:

UCSF Mission Bay campus is FREAKIN amazing I tell ya. Here's an example of what the Community Center lobby looks like from the 2nd floor:

So do you just have a uber large lens or something on that camera? The curvature of the lens is really visible in the last couple photos.

I would venture a guess a good ole 12 or 14mm fish-eye lens

Hey, Mission Bay Community Center - I know that place well. Since I work for UCSF. Good job Art - it came out really well.

BUT..... like Phong said, "Where are the cute models??" ;D

I purposely used the fisheye and the distortion for some of the pictures. The last one was just to give you an idea of the place, not really a picture for showcase/critique.

I know there are hundreds of defishing programs out there (namely DxO being the better), but I love using the fisheye only for the purpose of distortion. The fisheye lens is a 10.5mm.

Elite: didn't shoot models last weekend ;) I have a few studio shoots coming up soon with some semi-pro models, so watchout for those.

Here are some of my favorites with my fisheye:

the distortion is definitely wanted in those shots. otherwise I could pull out the 12mm lens ;)

thanks for looking!

Exactly, having the distortion is the whole intent. The photos really look fantastic. The range of color in the light and dark areas is superb.

corrected? you mean without the fisheye distortion?

this effect is not created in photoshop or anything. this is STRAIGHT from the camera. I am using a Nikkor 10.5mm F/2.8 Fisheye Lens, which basically creates this effect to gain a great 10.5mm focal length.

unless you are interested in seeing me process it into a non fisheye picture? In that case I don't have any sort of program to do that right now =( sorry! they're really darn expensive, and I don't really have the need for it at the moment. Not that I need a new fish tank yet I get like 3... (whole other discussion altogether ;)

thanks for the comments!

Ah, so I was close :D

10.5mm F/2.8 fisheye must be nice.

I really need to trade in my film slr and move straight into digital (Canon 1V).

it's a great lens!

but how funny, I'm moving back to my aunt's old Nikon F2a.

how long have you been shooting for eileen?

Off and on for about ten years now.

I was taking photos of dog show wins for a former dog club I was in. Since they were published in the national magazine hence the fancy camera.
