Taking down my tank...

Unfortunately, my first posts here are going to be related to taking down my tank (moving out of the area and can't take it with me).

Let me say up front that my question below is about selling livestock - really more about what price I should ask. If this is against the terms of service or forum rules, please let me know and I'll delete this ASAP.

Anyway, I am selling everything off, and am not sure what a decent price would be to ask for a frogspawn coral. From what I've seen online, and what I vaguely remember paying for it, typically a frogspawn coral will cost well over $10 per head.

What would be considered a fair price for a buyer? $8 a head? $10 a head? I'd like to offer a price the buyer would be happy with, but at the same time, I'd like to get something back after all of the money I put into the tank.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Bad news:
While there are no rules about offering for sales here, you have to realize in this club the sale of more "common" corals probably won't get you a price anywhere close to what you paid for them. So $10 a head for frogspawn probably won't be realistically achievable. This club is all about sharing corals, and a head of something is something we readily hand out for free. So while you might go into a store and see similar prices, you're probably not going to get that kind of cash. So if you weren't very successful and only have tiny corals that didn't grow much you might be taking a loss, your best bet in that case is to sell everything as a package. Unless of course you have something particular nice color/rarity/etc.

Good news:
If however your coral happens to be a rather sizable colonies, even of "common" stuff you probably can get a bit of money for it, granted not $10/head type of money, but because its a bit of "instant gratification" i.e. a full sized colony of a coral, you're more like to find a seller. If it were me I'd give away smaller corals to anyone who buys a larger colony, this is assuming your corals are larger. Make sure to take pictures, even if they're kind of crappy pictures, people want to see what you're talking about, if you can take good pictures all the better, make sure you tell people how large it is. Those sorts of things help sell livestock more so than just saying "big frogspawn colony".

We do have a for sale section here, not sure if non-members can post there though. Reefcentral - local clubs - greater san francisco bay area is probably a better place, however reefcentral does have rules about new people posting for sale stuff (need like 100 posts and 1 month on the site I think), craigslist might be your best bet. Worst case scenario you could always try a local store to see if they'll accept them, while you'll probably get bottom dollar in trade, and even worse on a cash exchange it might be better than nothing. Remember, picture is worth a 1000 words!
