I have this particular blue sponge in my tank which has encroached on some encrusting coral and killed it. So all sponges are not created equal. I've also heard that some are very picky and require specific environments in well established tanks. In some cases I think you could be risking unnecessary issues, but I have done minimal sponge research so I'm sure there could be some great varieties out there.
Do you have an idea of what you'd like to add or where you'd get it from?
That might be the one PaulB said is ruining his tank for acros and montis. Photosynthetic and highly abrasive. Probably should try to cover it or prevent it from spreading.I have this particular blue sponge in my tank which has encroached on some encrusting coral and killed it. i always thought the blue photosynthetic one was a good sponge. Is it not? That might be the one PaulB said is ruining his tank for acros and montis. Photosynthetic and highly abrasive. Probably should try to cover it or prevent it from spreading.
This is the one he posted pictures of. Said it's rubbery, photosynthetic, and super invasive:i always thought the blue photosynthetic one was a good sponge. Is it not?
Is this the same stuff we saw at the Academy on our tour? The plating one in the photo. Here's two more of it, you can see how it's everywhere:
