URGENT: Looking for help moving 90g system Sunday 4/19

Hi everyone

I am relocating from Northeast San Jose to Sunnyvale this Sunday, April 19th

I’ll be moving a fully loaded 60 gallon cube aquarium and a stand with a 30 gallon sump.

I’m looking for an able-bodied person or two who is available that morning or early afternoon. My original assistant came down with a cold and is unable to make it.

The rough scope of this work will be to work as a team to disassemble the system, load up the coral fish and inverts into sealed buckets with the tank water, transport everything to my new place (renting a U-Haul), and then reassemble the system. I estimate it will be about a three hour job.

Please note I’m planning to use 25 gallon containers to transport the coral rock work and tank water, which fully loaded I estimate will be in excess of 175lbs (these will be transported with at least two people, but will require decent back leg and shoulder strength)

If you’re available willing to help, please let me know ASAP, appreciate any assistance in advance!
 
Agree, I already have a 40g drum with fresh SW waiting at the new house. It’s more of a backup option though as I want to maintain water chemistry during the move as much as possible. Will look to take over as much existing system SW as we can support
 
I agree with @Kensington Reefer.


Trying to take a entire system of used water is of no real benefit. Maybe take the first 20-30 gallons before disrupting the sand bed/substrate etc. You wouldn't want any funky water thats been stirred up or mixed with detritus from the bottom of the tank.

Also moving 25 gallon Bins full of water is more work than required especially to the back. Transport coral in smaller indivual container they touch each other in transit your likely to loose some. Get multiple containers for rocks fill no more than half say with rocks, and only enough water to cover them. One person should be able to lift it with the rocks alone a second helping should be sufficient to lift them with water.

Plan to have furniture dollies so your only lifting on the dolly and to the truck not carrying that around.

Lastly maybe plan to get up earlier, and separate and secure your own corals into containers or bags place those in a container. So when your help shows up things go quickly and smoothly. You could even have the rocks in containers already, Fish in container with air stones and heaters they would be fine even over night if you did it the day prior.

The last part is only a suggestion. Though I do stand on the point of securing your own corals separately bagged or cupped. Fish are always easier to catch when there is less water in the tank and rocks are removed.

I agree that a 100% ‘water change’ should not be an issue if you have a good salt, so the stated concern ‘to maintain water chemistry’ should not materialize. In fact, your tank might even benefit from this, despite the moving change.

I can see though that having 90+ gallons ready might be a challenge. Transporting water as well though.
 
Fair points regarding transporting the SW. I do already have 40g of newly made SW ready at the destination (yes mixed with the same salt, circulating, at temp).

Some of the original tank water will need to be transported though.

My rock work is also unfortunately in big blocks (not the original owner, otherwise would’ve selected smaller sized blocks).

There’s a top block full of very large Acros that is the main pain point with this move. It’s one single rock weighing about 45lbs that isn’t easily breakable.

My transportation plan is to submerge it in tank water, to help protect it during the move and to take some of the tank water with me.

Apart from that I think everything else is pretty manageable since I can put some of the remaining tank water in 5g buckets with lids, and plan to use the 40g reservoir of freshly made SW
