Reef nutrition

Wanted to take a moment to say a few things

Hi guys, no technical questions or specifically exciting reef content here today but I felt that what I have to say in this thread is due and obligatory as a new-ish active member of BAR

Thank You.

Yes that's all I wanted to say :) it's been a year since I joined and i have never enjoyed a reef tank so much, I feel this is due to this small community and the amazing ways we use it to interact with each other. In the past I had no real base for problem solving and constructive conversation. My reef problems were addressed through talking to anyone who had an opinion and mostly through trial and error which needless to say can result in frustration and livestock loss as well as lots of $$$ wasted.

Fast forward to today; I've learned more in the last year than I ever have, I am keeping more living variety in my tank than I ever have and I have more big plans/upgrades and a better commitment to the hobby than ever before.

So thanks to all the guys who I have met as well as everyone I virtually interact with on here. Just to throw a few names out there, Erin, Mike(s), Gusty, Theu, Neuro (I think it's Alfred right? I know I'm a douche I already asked you like 3 times), bondolo and many others whose names are not coming to me right now. You are all absolutely awesome and you rock :D

Newbies you are exactly where I was last year and I promise you have a lot of excitement to look forward to :p

Glad you are enjoying the hobby, and having success! Exactly what this club is all about!

I have to apologize, my tank right now is a wreck, it's basically become a holding tank for the one I'm building now, I have another thread on that...

I feel so overwhelmed when I look at this thing, the algae sort of drives me nuts but I have to live with it, it's hard working on this tank beyond the weekly cleaning & water changes since it's such a piece of crap (Odyssea) but I consider these good problems to have, especially since I never thought last November I would be this fully stocked in just one year :D

Well said, Fidel.

I went to my first BAR meet in January 2012. All the friendly people got me hooked right away! What a great club.

You have a lot of corals in there, and they look pretty healthy to me.
That is not something that everyone can do.
So do not beat yourself up too much.

Yeah, some algae.
And if you get rid of that, the aptasia, majanos, then the palys will be there to drive you nuts.
All part of the fun....

thanks Mark, my corals are all very healthy but a few are struggling due to algae suffocating them and that's the part that makes me angry with the algae. Fortunately my new flameback angel & tailspot blenny seem to be grazing on the rocks & algae almost constantly, not that I expect them to eradicate the algae but at least the algae is making the fish happy haha

currently I'm in a losing battle with algae vs. my tri-color acro :( that's the one that I get really upset about

I honestly think that the only way to have a successful tank is to have some experience with issues like you're seeing in your current tank.

Having that experience really helps you down the line as long as you can learn from it.

Very well said Fidel and very much echoes my feelings about the club. I showed up at the December meeting 3 years ago and was immediately welcomed and learned so much in even that first meeting that I've been hooked on this club and the members ever since. It takes talking to a newbie at an event like BAP or at a LFS to realize how much I have learned over the last 3.5 years (and how much I still have to learn). I am encouraged that despite turnover we seem to continue to have a strong core of helpful, generous, committed members. I don't have as much time as I would like to participate in the club or on the forums but I feel like every effort I do make is multiplied by the contributions of others.

Great topic!
