High Tide Aquatics

What kinda algae is this?

Got this stuff all over my pipes. It's ez to take off but annoying to look at. Anything that grubs on it? My phosphates have gone up so hopefully lowering them will make this stuff grow slower or die.

Isn't hair algae and bryopsis green? I doesn't look like GHA cause I got some of that in my sump. Doesn't look to much like the bryopsis I see on google images. This stuff looks like brown roots... :~

Looks like "unhealthy" GHA to me.
Up near the lights, I get the brown stuff occasionally.
Turn your lights down, and maybe add a bit more red, and it should grow better. J)
On the plus side, the brown stuff usually comes off easy when scrubbed, where the
healthy green stuff is impossible.

You know, it looks a bit like red hair algae in that photo, but more brown that red.

My suggestion - Mexican turbo snails. (Turbo fluctuosa)
They eat the green and red.
But they bulldoze things.
Which reminds me, I need to buy a bunch as well.

Pretty sure GHA does not branch of like in that pic.

It's turf algae :D

(Sorry I couldn't resist)

Grr. !#$&*@!
:D
Hey, I bet his nitrate/phosphate levels are zero now then.

Filaments seem too fine and long to be the turf algae I have seen though.

If it's what Patrick is referring to it's hydroids. Hard to tell without a close up shot.

I kinda doubt we have the same thing though, because the hydroids I have only grow in really really heavily fed systems like for jellies and NPS corals. They thrive on rotifers, phyto, and baby brine.
