What's up with Kevin Kohen getting Peppermint Angels (paracentropyge boylei)?

I think they are awesome looking, and heard that only one was in captivity at some point. Given they will have an unrealistic and intangible price tag for many, what's your take?

Trust me, Kevin/Race/Marty would not purchase something if there was not a market for it. I know of a few that would buy the fish in a heart beat.

Price tag is very realistic. Some one risks his life to collect those and the trip itself costs tens of thousands just to do.

Sorry, I meant realisitic as in being realistic for someone to buy. I probably wouldn't be able to justify buying it for myself, rather than saying the fish shouldn't cost that much. Though it looks pretty awesome.

Where are these fish collected, how dangerous is it? Reading a few articles, it seems like barely any live in captivity today?

6+ years on the last one collected and still living. The tank is ugly, but the fish is damn breath taking :)

Like I said, I know of a few that would buy if for tens of thousands. Very realistic for them, maybe not you.

IIRC ~400'... has to be docomp'ed for many hours (24?) while the boat sits above it (not easy on it's own). Full rebreather needed and only 2-3 people on the planet even have the ability to collect those. One mistake and the diver is dead.

What would you charge for risking your life? If it were me doing the collecting the fish would be a multi-million dollar fish ;)

Well hopefully the divers actually get compensated well for this, unlike those deep water anthias of course if a couple more zeros were added to the price of those fish I'm sure they would as well. It'd be a shame if this is simply a markup to make the risk of such a fish worth it.

He's highly compensated. Most likely will be the one the fish is named after ;) He also collects the deepwater anthias and doesn't push his other divers to extremes.
