Some guy on FB Marketplace has a clearly Saltwater style setup yet there is a goldfish in it and hes selling it for 100$ .

I tried to ask him about the lights and equipment but he doesn't exactly speak english and google translate is failing me.

from the looks of these lights do you think this is worth picking up? Im thinking I put the goldfish in my stock tank and make a pond out of it and use the lights & canister filter for some saltwater projects in the future

No idea what kinda lights those are, if made for fresh or saltwater. I would guess by looking at them they cost more than $100 easily. So couldn't say they would work for coral not knowing what they are as a starting point to look them up.

As far as that tank size some members probably have some that size in their backyard or garage you could get for free.
All things considered the canister filter lights tank probably not a bad deal for $100 bucks. Just uncertain if that would work for saltwater purposes without different lights. Figure out what lights they are for a better picuture of valve

Not sure why you see this as a saltwater setup. Everything about it says freshwater setup to me. The tank isn’t drilled. No overflow or sump. Canister filters aren’t generally used for saltwater, and even if you did you’d have to start over with the filters/media. You’d also have to start over with everything in the tank. The lights are probably freshwater spectrum/intensity since reef lights are more expensive. Basically all you’d be getting is a bare non-drillled PetCo tank.

Don’t bother

Agreed with everyone else as well, why I mentioned you could get that tank for free probably. And you would be likely to need different lights, I have seen people use modified canister filters for saltwater tanks, but it's honestly never ideal. They could work but given time you will want different filtration at some point. So results in you pretty much paying 100 for the tank alone. Now if u wanted it for a freshwater tanj it wouldn't be a horrible deal.

You can definitely do better for a reef tank especially seeing people always are giving away tanks here. If your a have a little patience and maybe post what you are intrested in.
It won't be right way, but in a month or so, I will have a 65gallon tank and stand available including sump. Probably a biocube as well.

I think that is an overflow. Probably plugged up somehow though considering he’s running a canister.

Agree with the rest though, id say not worth it as well

Yeah thats why I thought so plus as someone who loves freshwater you never really think to buy black box lights since you could go way cheaper and get better plant growth with more white leds
