Second QT batch done. Anthias are hard as hell to keep from killing each other.
I started with 1 male blue eye lyretail and 9 females. In addition to these I threw in a royal gamma and a midas blenny.
First couple days, everything was fine...fish eating and all getting along. By day 3, the male goes postal and takes out all of his childhood trauma on the gamma and midas. Like, all day....relentlessly..maybe he wasn't fond of the copper hitting 2ppm.
Poor guys didn't stand a chance..the females jumped in with him and they met their end by the 5th day.
A couple more days pass and I start to notice the pecking order becoming apparent while feeding them. 10 became 9, then 9 became 7..anything longer than 14 days in copper would have been too much. Appetites were on the decline and all looked weak.
I decided to hold them a couple more days without copper and ran a prazi treatment.
Threw them in the DT on day 16 and the tank turned to wrestlemania...the male lyretail made a beeline for the tangs. While the hippo was getting punked, the nicle sized scopas held his own and brought the heat...those zebrasomas are built different..
I didnt realize how much of a little A-holes lyretails are. Glad the male and 6 others made it. Itll be the last time I try to do that many fish at once..daily WC sucked.
