Cobalt has sent a return mailer to get the heater back and is sending a new one out to me. I'm not sure I'll be using it given what's gone down with the last one. I'll probably keep it in the box as an emergency spare and buy the BRS titanium one with a controller.

Sounds like a plan. I'll do as a complete water change and throw in the carbon I kept on hand and order some poly as well. I'll probably do the ICP test just to make myself feel better Thanks all! You all are the best!

It was a 100W Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm Pro.

I do have the heater on an Apex controller. It had just turned on 5 minutes prior to the failure. My tank runs warm so this was actually the first time the heater had turned on in the last month or so. I had put in some fans to try to bring the temp down.
