    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

I have two mp40s at 50% reef crest and two hygger 18W (1850gph) running at 75%. Probably around 800-1000gph between to two returns. There is some sand movement, but it's very minimal. Probably so little it's not even worth mentioning. I used 80lbs of Carribsea Special Grade Sand and 20 lbs of...

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

150 Gallon Tank Looks like the light brown dusting (probably diatoms) is subsiding since showing up on 3-4 days ago during the weekend. Let's see what ugly is next. This is with the lights running a full reef schedule and a fuge running 12 hours a night. CUC being delivered today, so hopefully...

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

I didn't know that was the exact model the new Geo's used. I knew they had a small DC pump on them, but didn't look into exactly what pump they used. No issue connected the flex tubing to the UV. Just have a 3/4" barb to MPT adapter going into the threaded bulkhead. Just make sure to use pipe...

    MD’s 45 Gallon Frag Tank

Depends on the route you want to go. Either feed more food that has a better nitrate to phosphate ratio, add more fish if there's space to eat the extra food or dose Sodium Nitrate (NaNO3) or potassium nitrate (KNO3). Me personally, I'd dose a little Sodium Nitrate.

    MD’s 45 Gallon Frag Tank

Are you seeing good growth on your coral or have macro algae growing? If so, they could be taking in more nitrate than before due to new growth if your feeding habits haven't changed.

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

150 Gallon Tank Ugly stage has begun. Oh the brown goodness. Time to let it ride and get some CUC. I think I'm the only person who does this, but I set up my fuge as soon as tank is being fed and there's any livestock in the tank. I use this led grow light panel in all of my systems for...

    Green Emerald Crab

While you should be careful, i believe you really only have to worry about ingesting them. They don't have a mechanism to deliver their toxin that they get from bacteria.

Why do easy sps die in a new tank and why is coral so easy to grow after 18 months?

I dose Cherry Kool Aid powder. 1 Tbsp per 10gallons. Also a drop of FD&C Red #40 food dye once a day. :p

Why do easy sps die in a new tank and why is coral so easy to grow after 18 months?

Pests? You have a digital microscope to get a really good look? Plus, there's always the possibility of the bad bacteria that no one can really tell you if it's there, but it is. ;)
