It's a semester-long elective class for 7th-8th graders. I made it up and lobbied my district hard for it. Kids have no idea it is an entire second science class with no homework or tests but just tons of sciencey activities, heh heh. Super fun, depending on the class composition. We are in the third year of a new schedule I dislike, and new admin made so many changes it is sad. Used to be of interest to all levels of students, most challenged special ed students on campus were placed in it, and at least one section of it was same time as English learners class, so if they graduated out of it they could come into "aquatic studies" - perfect bc science offers solid skills and interest for everyone plus tons of natural conversation and vocab. Now it's only one section and same time as adv band, second yr French, adv Spanish for native speakers, and Leadership, so all those kids can't take it, and not at same time as English learning so those kids are also out. Long answer, but developing this class over ten years gave me a revitalizing boost even though it's a lot of extra work.
And YES - you stated another argument that came up today! One group claimed water was more powerful bc it would make powder disappear by dissolving it, while others claimed the powder would dissolve and "fully infect" the water so powder is more powerful. After teaching a long time, I still constantly hear new things.
