Flatworm update.

My recent anecdotal experience. I have the rust colored flatworms in both of my tanks. Decided it was time to get more serious about getting rid of them. Read a lot about various fish. After a discussion with Kenny at High Tide I decided to try out a yellow coris wrasse in my smaller 60g tank. It’s been about two weeks. I don’t see the flatworms on the glass anymore. I have not done anything else different. Before I could find several on the glass at all times. Just my experience so far. Will update again later.
Long term plan is to move him into the display of this works out or get a second one.

I do not believe this fish will be able to get along with my Melanurus wrasse?

How big is your Melanurus? How big is your tank? What phase is your Melanurus in? I have kept both in a tank several times. Also, Melanurus are awesome for flatworms as well.

For the record, I have never had flatworms because I am always heavy on wrasses. I've had everything else.....

Yellow coris wrasse is a misnomer for this fish, but commonly used in the hobby Coris is genus a separate from the halichoeres genus that the chrysus belongs to. Coris usually get VERY big

Tbh I was very nervous about adding a halichoeres since I have a lot of leopard wrasses. In the past I had a timor wrasse (halichoeres timorensis) that terrorized leopards but this yellow chrysus has been a model citzen so far. I did acquire her when she was smaller though and the leopards were already established.

@gmdcdvm did u see the big adult one that Kenny had in the window display? It has beautiful green markings on its head that develops as they get bigger.

Yes. Same wrasses.
And yes, I saw Kenny’s adult. Beautiful fish with bright yellow pop!

I think only males get this marking right? I think they're all born female. I have one that's an adult, hoping it turns into a male and gets the cool green markings on its face!

Fully grown male. Not sure how effective the melanurus I have is against flatworms. Would be great to finally get a fish that can deal with my flatworms.

Tank is 150 gallons.

I will update this again in a few weeks. These flatworms are annoying and like to smother my goni’s for some reason. If he works out in the small tank he will be going into the main display to see what he does.

Well,
Been about 10 days since the last post. I don’t see any more flat worms in the smaller display. Still pretty anecdotal evidence but I think the wrasse is working out. Haven’t see him actually eat one but I see him picking away at the rocks. Would be cool if he took out the vermetid snails in that tank too.

I have had too luck with bumblebee snail and vermetids.

I had to double dose my system last week to kill the flatworms but it also pissed off all my micro brittle stars
