Meh…if you don’t want the shrooms. Just bleach it. If you don’t want the stark white looking rock from bleach, leave it out for a day or two. Looks like you have sand in your tank. That piece of rock will have minimal impact to your tank in terms of bacteria.

That’s how AC pumps work. They don’t dial down the voltage or the motor speed, they just restrict flow. But it puts more back flow resistance on the pump. Don’t know what this translates into pump wear, but it definitely isn’t going to make it last longer.

You can use the larger drain as the primary drain, but I would use it as a durso drain and not put a valve on it. Durso drains are hard if not impossible to silence though.
