    BioCube 29 Pump Recommendation?

Second incident of a BTA walking into a powerhead (nonlethal) despite double cage, so I need to go PH-free. Anybody have a good experience with a certain pump in a BC 29? Stock pump seems too low flow. Thought a Locline Y with two random flow generators would be good. I have never used an...

A San Francisco transplants FIRST TANK

Welcome @Gabtron92! Looking forward to your tank journal. Female here, but sadly I have been just lurking for quite awhile now - trying to keep my head above water with work challenges. And extended family issues. And deciding on solar install. And tanks! :D PS - I live in the East Bay -...

    LF: Small Reef-Safe Rabbit Sculpture

Lunar New Year theme at this point for various reasons, hence the need for a rabbit - just one.

    LF: Small Reef-Safe Rabbit Sculpture

Thanks for the ideas and the generous offer (@Srt4eric). I was trying to avoid plastic but I guess I use plastic mushroom cages, so why not. I'll first check with the shop teacher and new 3D printers; he never got back to me about printing plankton viewer adapters for microscopes and Tunze ATO...

    LF: Small Reef-Safe Rabbit Sculpture

Instead of skulls, zombies, or Star Wars characters I am in search of a rabbit on which to grow an encrusting coral. 22 gal bookshelf tank (3' long) is about to get a restart and will include a Lunar New Year theme. Anybody seen an aragonite, terra cotta, ceramic, etc. rabbit? Anyone use...

Pink stylophora or pink birdsnest. Some zoas, but I don't know any names.

High School Classroom 150Gal - tank journal

Woohoo! Lucky students! My two cents is don’t feel rushed to get fish. I started with a variety of inverts and live rock, so students got used to looking small and noticing all sorts of changes. Anything in the tank will be awesome!

Cocktails and Coral Talk at High Tide Aquatics (HTA) Sunday 12/4 featuring Matt Wandell

I am still working on getting free. Overwhelmed by work and other factors and can't make the Saturday event, but maybe Sunday I can make it. Ugh. I am so out of the BAR loop.

    Happy Veterans Day

Thank you @WAR5150 for starting this. I am grateful for all of you who made the decision to serve our nation in this way, knowing it may bring difficulties for you. Too often most of us take our freedom, security, and disaster response for granted. Without your service, life would not be the...

Failing seal on Red Sea Aquarium

Sounds like you want to make the temporary tank this weekend, but if you need help Monday or after I would be happy to help. Out of town this weekend.

    Randy’s Innovative Marine 75 Ext

Excellent description of your setup! Question about your sump tricks including the sponge tray - in addition to reducing noise, does it also reduce splashing of water droplets? I have a problem with salt buildup due to droplets from skimmer return, emergency drain, and flow into return chamber...

Fish in a Lowboy or Other Shallow Tank

Thanks for all the ideas from everyone. I'll have to think about it. Maybe I'll try a blenny and inverts to start. I could try the tomini bc I could move it to my big tank, but my urchins and such in there take care of a lot of the algae. Then again, I have algae issues there still. As mentioned...

What if we make the lineage part of DBTC optional?

I agree in keeping DBTC how it is for the purposes of "backing up" your coral, though I agree with @Coral reefer that perhaps there could be some way to organize parallel but distinct chains of the same coral type. I also agree that specific lineage is of some importance; I have a chain for a...

Fish in a Lowboy or Other Shallow Tank

I have seen tangs in shop frag tanks, but I feel like they don't belong in a shallow tank. And they don't need rockwork to hide and sleep in? And won't they grow too large? Could one of those tangs be moved into a 105g in the future without causing problems? I'm feeling stressed about it, but...

Fish in a Lowboy or Other Shallow Tank

Seeking suggestions and experience from those who have housed fish in a shallow tank, say 12" or less in height. I currently have a 10" H lowboy roughly 50g and am about to reset a 22g bookshelf tank (3' long). My questions include fish jumping out, fish not stressed out by the shallow depth...

    Fish ID

12-year-old boy. Enough said. Actually, some 7th graders in an accelerated science class went on the trip but I do not teach that grade. I have several of them in my marine science elective class but we have been too busy to talk about it and I don't want to make the rest of the kids feel sad...
