I added aquabiomics (parasite tested ocean direct) live sand to see if it would help “age” my tank that is coming up on 10-11 months old. I seem to have developed a green cynano like algae that goes away at lights off on my sand bed.

I love my reolink PTZ webcam. I can pan zoom and tilt to look so specific areas of the tank or under thr stand.

My inkbird turns on my heater from 77 to 78 and runs my fan from 79 to 78. A slow 1 degree swing usually.

I like to stir up my sand and scrape under my frag racks once a month. Otherwise non reef people think the tank is neglected. Will this cause any issues? I just gravel vacuum or blow off the sand and change out my filter floss after a day.

The fan runs due to ambient current draw even when the leds are turned off in software. I have a smart outlet auto shut them off at 1am. However, I like to run xmas lights on the lowest brightness for the holiday vibe as I fall asleep. LOL

I'm using a high alk salt and I don't trust myself/don't want to manually lower the alk from 11 to 8 every water change. Stability over chasing numbers IMO. Would I probably see some improvements from dropping down to 8dKH? Yes I agree. Do I want to switch to paying 50%+ or more for an 8dkh...

Highly recommend upgrading the stock meanwell LRS 12v 350w 60mm psu fan (it’s a screamer) to a 120mm 3000rpm noctua industrial fan. 11 times the airflow means that when it cycles on the fan rapidly pulls down the temp and then cycles right back off :)

Thanks all! I was able to send a family member to petco and walk them through swapping out heaters via FaceTime. Tank is back up to 78 and the fish seem ok. Another win for the “dead fish alarm”!

Hi all! My inkbird is alarming and I’m stuck at work until 6pm. Current temp 74.8 set temp 78. Stocking includes zebra loaches, a pleco, various corydoras, American flag fish, pearl gouramis, and amano shrimp. How low can their temp drop before I need to call out and rush to buy a new heater?

I ordered some aquabiomics live sand to boost tank diversity without adding pests. I hope it’s worth the $49 price.

I was over feeding to the point of tank odor and I still couldn’t get nitrate above 0 so I ended up with Dinos. Now I dose 4ml of (40g sodium nitrate to 750ml RODI) to maintain 10-15ppm. Nitrate dosing is poo-poo’d on here but it was a key part in stabilizing my tank. That and a lot of pods.
