    EMERGENCY: HEATER MALFUNCTION (PLEASE HELP)

That's cool! I currently have the club's CO2 meter, which actually has temperature and humidity on it as well. I took the digital thermometer out of the water and put it's probe next to that device, I also have another desktop humidity/temp gadget that I use to check humidity downstairs I put...

    EMERGENCY: HEATER MALFUNCTION (PLEASE HELP)

I have just wired a ranco controller. I stuck the probe in and it said 76F. hmmmm.... but my Aquacontroller says 83! So I dug out a digital aquarium thermometer, put new batteries and use that, it said 75.9. So Hmm...... OK. I check my ancient Aquacontroller and re-calibrate it and now it tracks...

    EMERGENCY: HEATER MALFUNCTION (PLEASE HELP)

Apparently, the Aquacontroller Jr that I am using as a thermometer was off by 7 degrees and my tank was not 83F but 76F!!!

How do you mix your saltwater?

I had just finished typing up my procedure, which also included "one 44g brute can take one 50g bag of salt mix". As instant ocean mixes to 1.023, and I mix my salt 10 1.026 so the 50g bag into 44 g gives me about 1.026. V

How do you mix your saltwater?

This is exactly how I do it! One 44 gallon brute and one entire bag of salt (I buy Instant Ocean in the 200g boxes, I think it's 4 bags per box, so 50g salt mix per bag, I mix with the 44 g of water. it's 200g per box if you mix to 1.023, but I like 1.026, so it's perfect to put one bag per 44...

    10 gallons

Honestly, I love GSP! It peels off anywhere you don't want it, and it takes up surfaces to deny algae growth. It makes an excellent back-wall carpet. V

Picked up this 120 Gal reef-ready Aqueon from Marketplace. I want to spend the long-haul refurbishing it-- any resources/tips are greatly appreciated!

IMO, the most important aspect is the stand. Once the aquarium is filled and on it, there is no turning back. A powdercoated steel frame would be my preference, with magnetically attached wood panels. Deign a sump that fits that stand or vice versa. Plan out the whole system without a single...

    Leveling a full aquarium

My tank also has a slightly unlevel aspect. Before I had installed the tank though I went into the crawlspace and put some pillars and a thick beam to help support the floor. I tried to level it as best I could. So I don't know if the tank's weight still shifted the floor or if I didn't level it...

Small flood caused by an adventurous anemone and my overflow pipe.

Thanks guys, I set up some fans and the visible part of the floor is dry, not sure what horrors await me one day UNDER the stand, but I guess I'll just repair it then. I'll check out the gutter guard. I used a make-shift "plastic cardboard" shield on the top of the overflows when I had fish, but...

Small flood caused by an adventurous anemone and my overflow pipe.

My hardwood floors are one step closer to total destruction. The other night, my daughter said "Hey Dad, you need to add more top off water, the sump is nearly empty!" so I thought "Oh my gosh, did I really neglect the top off reservoir that badly?" so I added some water and got started on the...

Tank Quote Feedback for a friend

He's missing an RO unit, unless he's planning on using purchased filtered ocean water (he live in Tampa, right?). 100 bucks for salt water, I'd rather invest that into an RO unit, and buy a bucket of salt. $50 gets you enough salt to make 200 gallons of salt-water (just add the water!) Then...

What type of "ceramic" are ceramic frag plugs made of? Can they be DIY without a kiln or specialize equipment?

I was considering mixing up some arago-crete and putting it in ice cube trays to make a sort of mound-shaped plug. Or maybe make a plug the size of a sand dollar (or heck, use an actual sand dollar!). Anyway, I have various bags of small frag plugs and some seem to be made of plaster, and some...

What are these brown strings that are killing my corals?

Why feed more? Is that for the coral to survive while he deals with the dinos? Or does high nutrients affect dinos negatively? V

Super glue & sand rock bonding technique

Instead of pouring sand on, try baking soda. Look up "Baking soda and super glue" "To create an even stronger and faster-curing bond, you can add baking soda to your super glue. When you mix super glue and baking soda, it accelerates the curing process. Chemically, the bicarbonate molecules in...

    EV Charger Question

My Main box from PG&E is 70 amps. My EVSE (What people call the "charger" is actually the Electtric Vehicle Service Equipment) is a 16 Amp 220V level 2, which is fine because my car only has a 3.3Kw charger. We had an electrician install it and he didn't touch the dryer ciruit. For stuff like...

Reef Delete free upgrade program *Limited time window 2/6-2/17*

That's brutal, it must ARRIVE AT CORALVUE between 2/6 and 2/17. Not "postmarked on those dates" but "arrived there". I'm interested to see if the upgraded version actually works. I've got a lot to zap. V

A San Francisco transplants FIRST TANK

Seriously ... official BAR club frag swaps and also the club's DBTC (Don't Break The Chain) swapping. Basically the idea is that someone offers up a frag of a coral for free to other people in exchange for that person promising to frag that coral when it grows large enough and passing on the...

Algae scrubbers vs refugium: DIY, pros/cons?

I must say that my ATS was disappointing enough that I bought a sulphur denitrator to reduce Nitrates instead.
