    Kinetic ELOS 120XL

It is a hobby. Something we all enjoy most of the time. I totally understand where you are coming from (I'm 10 years into a 2 year remodel on a Victorian...80% was done in 2 years...). Personally, if I can remove time pressure, the hobbies become fun again. I had to wait a bit, take a mental...

    How do you manage vacation?

Don't change any routines within a week of leaving. So many reefers seem to tweak right before leaving. If you have enough time...do a practice vacation a month before....don't touch the tank for a week...or two in your case maybe. Also, line up an emergency response team....maybe from...

    power strip discussion

Someone mentioned an interesting idea a week or so ago in a different topic. kasa strips can tell if a device is lying...or if you've forgotten to turn a pump back on...even one you can't see or hear because kasa reports power consumption per recepticle. So writing some code that checks to...

    Wall hammer help

How is the wall hammer? Perk back up? Yesterday evening one of mine sucked in entirely to the point where all the spines were showing. But this morning it's looking good again. Maybe that total deflate is more common for wall hammers? Or maybe a crab or snail walked over it and irritated...

    Wall hammer help

Mine are not touching any other hammers and they are looking good. One of them is full blown rockstar mode, the other isn't wilting but is more like a back up singer at the moment. Bottom of tank to adjust. Also dropped a little targetted reefroids+oysterfeast every other day since the swap...

    3/25/2023 BAR Frag Swap

I'd be interested in a group buy. I get stuck looking at the same thing and then look at my tank and see....the same thing. Best experience I've ever had was in from a tank break-down. Picked up a fun bunch and really changed my tank in ways I just hadn't thought of. So, I'm in @Apon

    Scopus tang

Oh man, all of my tanks are coral only and I think the corals are missing the fish (poop and cleanings). But, I'm only at a 25G nano so this is guy/gal would be too big (or will be shortly). Doing my best to keep the post on the top of the listing :)

    Power surge?

There are a ton of Surge Protector look-a-likes these days. Make sure that the packaging specifically says Surge Protection. I bought what I thought was a Surge Protector at one point last year and it turned out to be just a multi-receptical extension chord. I have all pumps and heaters...

    Popper's IM200ext

There is a battery in the non-wifi versions. Losing power with a dead battery will lose the programming. It's easy to test...just set the time, unplug, wait for a minute and then plug it back in to see if the time is still correct. Maybe wifi versions have a battery?

    Kalkwasser & ph anecdote

a few mushrooms (10%), LPS -micromussa lords+euphylia (60%), and SPS (20%). Decent mixed but not an obvious softies tank.

    Kalkwasser & ph anecdote

That link clarifies a lot for me. Also, while kalk is in the ATO for me, my ATO setup uses a doser for delivery so I get a consistent daily spread and amount but then occasionally I'll add RO/DI water by hand to make up any obvious additional loss due to seasonal changes. Still a little...

    Kalkwasser & ph anecdote

@Vincerama2, I've had a similar experience with kalk over the past month. Two tanks are chewing through alk, so I started kalk, which almost stabilized alk, so now I add just a little alk with kalk. But now calcium is rising....near 500 from 430-ish last month. Tank is looking fine, but I...

    Protein skimmer

I have 3 nano tanks. I've added the limewood airstones (reefglass) on two of them about 9 months after startup when I noticed oil slicks on the water surface....which I later corrected with better surface flow into a sock (thanks to recommendations from BAReefers). I'm not sure I even need the...

    Dinoflagellates: Who has beat them?

Sorry, I was reading this thread and thought....jeese it seems obvious to some people what to do and when to do it....and you all are pretty much in agreement....how do we get that to a broader group :)

    Dinoflagellates: Who has beat them?

Are there any reef tours? I would love to: Actually see what is and isn't working (and see all those bottles of 'stuff' that have dust and 'stuff' that is actively used). Find others with like setups or find out if my setup is 'way off the yellow brick road'. (Nano tanks with no fish, for...

With Coral Farmers Market around the corner, What are you hoping to find at this frag swap?

I ended up with 3 frags from the CFM. I was looking for maybe a yellow frog/octospawn...but then BAR members convinced me to buy some raffle tickets (thanks!) and I won $50 at Coralicious...which I bought a gonni with. Then, well, the flamethrower mushrooms were just there and at the end of...

    Insulated shipper boxes

A couple years ago our local non-city Recycle/Sustainability non-profit, Grey Bears in Santa Cruz, bought a styrofoam recycling machine....so I now take all of mine there. While not typically curb-side pickup, there are Styrofoam recycling locations throughout the Bay Area popping up recently...
