[March 26, 2016] BAR Members Frag Swap

Great pics, just wish I knew so I could "suck it in" a little. I had a great time talking corals and reef systems. The Pavona coral from nano sapiens seems to like its new home. Thanks to everyone for making this a successful swap!

    Alkalinity

I have been test every day since the WC. Mg is 1410 and slowly going down. Alk is 6.99 dKH. I have been adding Alk almost every day. Ca was 371 so will add more tomorrow. Corals look great though have had to move some since sweeper tentacles from the frog spawn are trying to kill one of them. I...

    Alkalinity

I conducted a water change and cleaned the tank of unwanted diatoms and hair algae at 12:30pm. At 5:30pm, the results of testing were: Mg: 1425, Ca 379 ppm, Alk 103 ppm or 5.768 dKH. I added 1 oz or 27 ml alkalinity and will add 1 oz of Ca in the morning.I will then add 1 oz Alk on Tue morning...

    Alkalinity

I just did a test at 4:30pm. Ca was 366. A little low but I will compensate tomorrow. Alk rose to 92 ppm or 5.152 dkh. Mg was 1440 ppm which is a bit too high, but I added this about an hour before. I will test again tomorrow after everything has settled down. I am also due for a tank cleaning...

    Alkalinity

I received the replacement regent for the Hanna Alkalinity Tester. Today I conducted a test and the reading was 104 ppm. I figured my reading would be low as I had not added alkalinity liquid in a few days. I then added 1 oz of liquid and waited three hours. I then tested again and it read 89...

[March 26, 2016] BAR Members Frag Swap

I will be there to help out. I do have some softies, colt coral, I believe. They are large and need to go to good home. Not much else in the frag dept as I have just started doing this. Maybe next year or at the regional swap.

Hi, new to bar.. kind of

Yes, Welcome to BAR. I have been a member for two years and now Secretary for one year. Use the forums. That is what they are here for; questions, comments, likes and dislikes. I didn't use it much when I first joined, but now I am here at least three times a week, checking out what members have...

    Unsolicited Advertising

Have you noticed the two add on this page; one for retinolla cream and the other for bodybuilding. Who put these up here. These should be removed as they have nothing to do with our club.

    No Skimate coming from Skimmer

After no skimmate for nearly 3 months, I took the whole thing apart, washed with soap the entire housing (rinsed very well) and put it back together. Within a week, I had some skimmate, but now it is producing at its previous level. Thank you all for your help on this. Now it is down to getting...

    BAR's New T-shirt

I will take a black in XL. Also, the logo looks better to the left or to the right. Middle is not good unless you are going for a large area of print; then it makes more sense.

    [Dec 12, 2015] Speaker Event/Potluck: Rich Ross

This was a great event. Richard gave a great presentation and answered all of the questions we presented. He should get an award from us for being such a fantastic speaker and telling us what we all want to know. Our group is definitely in the top 9% in reefkeeping. And there are some who are...

[Nov 14, 2015] California Academy of Sciences Steinhart Tour (San Francisco, CA)

What a great tour. So much to see and learn about. These people are serious about keeping and maintaining reef aquariums. I wish we could spend many hours with the staff. They must be great to work with. Next year I won't forget my camera as there was sooooo much to see. Organizers did a great...

[Nov 14, 2015] California Academy of Sciences Steinhart Tour (San Francisco, CA)

Question. Should we buy our tickets on line or wait till we get there. I remember early on after the renewed academy opened you had to wait for your time before you could get in. Is this still the same or has it slowed down to a reasonable pace?
