    Joe's Reef Journey

Lol Sharp eyes! I updated the list. I got it when it was tiny but it grows so fast! I think I will have to say goodbye to the fish soon. The zoa you pointed out is the goblin eye zoa which is one of my favorites. Emerald on fire is a similar one, it has a green ring in the center.

Yeah, I love damselfish because they add lots of motion, are hardy, small, vibrant in color, and affordable. :)

    Joe's Reef Journey

Update 06/10/22 One major change has been the improved color and polyp extension of the acros after raising PO4 level by adding more fish and feeding more. PO4 before - 0.0 to 0.03 PO4 nowadays - 0.03 to 0.07 Not the biggest fan of the look of the bare bottom. Thinking about adding super...

    Michael's 168 build

The trio of a green montipora with red dots, a blue tortusa like acro as well as a green slimer stag. Another shot of the gold bar maroon clownfish on a carpet anemone. Love the corcea clam on the red digitata, I should try this when mine becomes a colony. The birdsnest points out of the...

    Michael's 168 build

I had a chance to visit Michael's house to check out his tank and would like to share some pictures taken. His tank looked terrific with lots of colorful corals and fish under the beautiful shimmer created by the two AP700! Also thanks to him for being generous and giving away some nice pieces...

    Joe's Reef Journey

Update 5/21 Installed bulkhead RO connector on the dosing containers. Installation done. A new addition: green scolymia :) I picked this one over more colorful (same price) ones because I wanted to add nice green color next to the red cynarina. The shot was taken today. Thinking about...

    Joe's Reef Journey

Just finished the weekly water test and noticed the low alk. Tested 3 times using different test kits but the result was the same. The culprit was the disconnected doser tubing. I modified and made the fit much tighter.

    Big Bubbler for pH?

I guess installing an HOB filter could achieve the similar thing?

    Big Bubbler for pH?

I think it would be a great idea. Some thoughts below: 1. Small fine bubble vs bigger bubble. I am not sure which one is better but I feel that bigger bubbles would be better because it creates more turbulence and more agitation on the water surface. 2. You could also consider leaving your...

Which acro has the most fluorescent green?

I put it in my son's 10g and now he is complaining about the urchin knocking stuff over. Maybe I should really consider a uni dinner. Lol

Which acro has the most fluorescent green?

This pink pincushion urchin was on my neon green candlelight acro (purchased from AQUASD) for a long time. So I knocked it away just to make sure.... and found out that the urchin was literally munching all over the acro. Sadly the acro died today. So the question is which acro has the most...

    Joe's Reef Journey

Took some more pictures today. Sony a7II + 50mm 0.98 & 24-70mm 2.8 EF were used. Shallow depth of field if not the most ideal lens for reef tank photography but it provides an interesting unusual look. :) The presentation of the aquascape is not as nice without sandbed, but I am happy that my...

Talk to me about filter sock cleaning

Just an idea, you could use a wide foam pad (higher density type) next to the baffle (also above the baffle) and wash it weekly with tap water and rinse with RODI. Not as good as 50 - 100 micron filter sock but more convenient since you never have to use a washing machine. :D I used to use...
