    Apex Salinity probe versus refractometer?

I used a refractometer for 3-4 years, but got tired of having to calibrate it each which includes making sure the temp. of the water and room temp. are about equal. About a year ago I bought a Hanna electronic meter and has made testing the water much easier. I can test the water mix and the...

    Felicia's 40B Predator Reef

Felicia you have a beautiful tank. As they say good things can come in small packages. I just recently came back from a trip to Africa so I'm late I replying to some of the conversations that have taken place with your tank. I did notice that you were concerned with the high nitrate level which...

    High Nitrate and phosphate

I've done a lot of research on nitrates and phosphates and the range of good vs bad is very wide. Rich Ross has tested his much higher than yours and his aquarium is fine. I have three aquariums and all have different numbers, but all are doing fine. As for nitrates I don't worry as long as they...

    Acan melting

NAV, I have noticed over time that you seem to be always adding something or changing the lights. Jar is right on, you need more patience which I know is hard in this hobby. Get your parameters stable put your Kessil's at 50-50 at 50-60 watts do water changes weekly and forget everything else...

[Dec 6, 2014] End-of-the-Year Potluck with Richard Ross (Hayward, CA)

Maybe it is just me, or people, may be waiting a little longer before replying, but the club seems to be having less and less people attending events. Not much of a club if people don't want to socialize and discuss their hobby.

    Triton Testing

It seems like a lot of money to test water especially since the water is constantly changing with water changes, coral growth, etc. And what could you do even if you saw some anomaly. People sometimes make this hobby for more complicated than it has to be. I am just sticking with the same salt...

    Xenia Outbreak

Buy some Aiptasia-X made by Red Sea. It will not kill them but they will recede for about 3 weeks. Then you can do it over again. Put some just around the outside and work in to what ever size you want them to stay at. You have a nice looking aquarium!

    2014/2015 Tank Tours

I will be in Brazil until 9-10-14, but put me down for showing my tanks. I have 3 and am always open to ideas on how to improve things. As stated above I'm in Oakland. Dick Flanagan

    Jebaeo dual pump controller?

Jebeo is now selling the rw4. It should give you plenty of wave action in a small tank. Dick Flanagan

My Clown is trying to kill my torches

My clowns in the 150 gal tank go in and out of my torches and frogspawn all the time and everything is still doing well. Would also help to have multiple corals for them to host. The pair in my 65 gal tank only have my Duncan and it tolerates them. You should be fine.

    Clown fish eggs

At first I too was concerned with the aggressive possibility, but so far nothing too bad. No one gets near the eggs, but no fighting yet. This may be because the clown fish are always protective of their area, and by now all the fish expect to be run off if they get too close.

    Clown fish eggs

Thanks Kensington reefer for your comment about providing the right environment for the animals we keep, I think that the best way to know this is if the fish and corals are in an environment where they feel safe and can multiply and grow. Dick Flanagan

    Clown fish eggs

I just noticed that my pair of snowflake onyx clown fish just layed a bunch of eggs. Since this is in my 150 tank with other fish even if they hatch I know none will survive, but it is just another little thing about having nature in your home. Interesting just watching them tend the eggs and...

Thanks again for all your work for the flower anemone group buy. As for the 8-2-14 field trip you asked for everyone's cell phone number, but in my case I don't own one. However I will be with Geneva and Devon.

    Jebao dosing pump

Jebao's pumps seem to get good reviews. I have 2 rw15 and 1 rw8. So far so good. But it would be better if the dosing pump had been out for a longer period of time. Unless I find some bad reviews I will probably get one later this summer and test it out. One of my 3 tanks sure could use one...

    Jebao dosing pump

I just received an email from a vendor announcing that they have the new Jebao dosing pump. Has anyone bought one? If reliable it seems like a good deal. It has 4 dosing pumps and can be set for 24 cycles per day. Cost from Fragfreaks is 115.00. Dick Flanagan
