Why you think so? I think he can, from the PAR values as mentioned here: http://nanoboxreef.com/duo.html and from the experience of many many nano-reef build threads,

You dont have to dose anything if you do weekly 20-30% WC till you add sps. In small tanks thats pretty doable. Once you start thinking about growing acros or something harder, start measuring you alk/ca/mg and do two parts. This is pretty much my first two years. You definitely dont need to...

Its not a pain if its contained in a rock, but yeah agree that it can be invasive. I would not recommend putting it in main island of the rockscape. The good thing is, once he is at my place he can take a look at different things and make a choice, I have orange digitata to grandis , that i can...

This is a sweet setup, you have skimmer and chaeto reactor going already. With that duo light, you should be able to grow even acropora in this tank :-) Lets start with GSP and let it grow for a few weeks, then slowly start adding radio active dragon eye, mohawks , various easy to keep montis...

How big and old is your tank. If your nitrogen cycle has already completed then probably start with GSP. Share details about your setup, things like light, flow etc. They are critical to determine what type of coral you can keep.

Gsp , Xenia , confine them in separate rocks. Vargas cespitularia, blasto, Mohawk zoa, radio active green eye zoa, Miami hurricane chalice , most Cloves , green pociliopora/birdnest all are easy and available in excess from one or other club members . I can give you at least three of the above...

    reef-pi 1.0 release

Thanks for the offer :-) . If you are interested, I'll be giving away at least couple of reef-pi builds during 2018 maker faire. I have a dremel, a scroll saw, few other tools (drill bits) .. but my challenge has been to find a powerstrip inside which i can mount a 8 channel relay. Something...

    reef-pi 1.0 release

I have used the single outlet version of these. They are good. But very inconvenient, you'll have wires connected to them. The single ones are particularly interesting, you can stick a 10$ pi zero and have a controllable (digital timer, web interface etc) outlets. The one that @Mark B suggested...

Yeah, I need to do a better job for that housing. I am thinking of modding a triplite power strip with individual switches.

its a DIY powerbar. Which is basically a wooden housing with bunch of receptacles mounted and a relay. The realy in turn is controlled by Raspberry Pi. The reef-pi software provides timer functionalities , and temperature controller style equipment on/off
