    Thinking about a new tank....

42" between the couch and the front doors on the cabinet. Plenty of room (hard to tell with this mockup because there is no natural shading which helps give these visual clues.) Maybe someday it will be easy to do a VR capture of a room and then replace furniture in VR. Yes, I am trying to...

    Thinking about a new tank....

DISCLAIMER: I am probably going to change my mind several times before I decide. Here is a mockup of the larger 150G 60x24x24 tank in the spot I am planning on. It is big, but not too bad. If I go with this size, I would do 3x1.5" drains and 2x1.25" returns. And 1x VarioS-8 (2700gph) return...

    Thinking about a new tank....

my searching found no 1" locline. They have 2.5",3/4", 1/2" and 1/4". http://www.modularhose.com/

    Thinking about a new tank....

What I was thinking is that the loc-line is 3/4" anyway, so why plump for 1" or 1.25" (the latter is the native output of the pump) and then stop down to 3/4" at the loc-line. I don't know the plumbing math. Maybe running a thicker pipe up to the loc-line return results in a higher overall flow...

    Thinking about a new tank....

Plumbed separately: each Various 6 will go to its own 3/4" return line and I won't run them at Max, so not looking for 2000 gph of flow (they are DC pumps). I know there are mixed feelings on running two pumps but I have heard first hand from someone that it works fine when they are plumped...

    Thinking about a new tank....

BTW, I am thinking about 2 Various 6 return pumps (I already have one). This gets me to ~2000pgh at 4.8' of water head. I like the idea of the backup. I had my return pump fail last year and it was a rush to get a replacement. Here is the chart:

    Thinking about a new tank....

CoralReefer (Mike) was over yesterday and we made some decision. He looked at the space. Since I am going custom, we decided a 55"x20"x24" tank with an internal overflow box is a good compromise for the space. I will go with a 48" hybrid ATI T5/LED fixture and use my two existing Rapid LED...

    Thinking about a new tank....

They quoted $1250+Shipping for this tank for a 60x18 footprint tank. Is that about right?

Plastic Cutting Board for Glass Tank Bottom?

I read about people buying custom plastic cutting boards from plasticcuttingboards.com in order to protect the bottom of their glass tanks. I am a little nervous about glass in earthquake country. Anyone know anyone who tried this? Is it really add some protection in an earthquake or if you...

    Thinking about a new tank....

It will be a while before I fund this thing, so let me know when it gets wet. I live next to Oakland (actually there right now having dinner!).

    Thinking about a new tank....

Yeah, I got that. I just don't have a sense for how flat it will look. That is certainly the kind of thing that would suck finding out if I don't like it after thousands of dollars in a tank and a stand. I was thinking the opposite. The fact it was so long would accentuate the skinny. But you...

    Thinking about a new tank....

What about a stand? WHo is a good vendor to get a stand from? I want something like he one below. I can reach out to these guys, but always prefer to work with someone local if I can afford to). (from here: https://www.midwestcustomaquariums.com/cabinetry/wood-aquarium-cabinetry/ )

    Thinking about a new tank....

Hmm... I am probably ok with the Euro brace. I agree the reduced water sloshing thing is a big advantage. My current tank has a euro brace and I like being able to clean the glass without worrying about spilling. I also got a quote for a custom glass rimless and it was very pricey. I need to...

    Thinking about a new tank....

That tank looks great, especially for the price. Thanks for the link! Seems like (112+40) x10 = 1,152 Gph. Which is about 50% of the 2,220 maximum flow rate for a 1" pipe. Anecdotally, that seems like enough of a cushion that a 1" plumbing would be fine for 10x turnover. Another possibility...

    Thinking about a new tank....

My 125G acrylic is showing its age (scratches and crazing). I want to move to a glass rimless tank. I am going to move it to the living room. Here is what I am thinking, but I am curious what others will say: 60"x18"x24" 112G Glass Rimless, low iron front (maybe the right side), black back. I...

    Ray's 125G Softie Tank

Fragged and moved the gorgonian. Cleaned up the sump. Removed the broken Digital Aquatics stuff and mounted the power cords outside the tank. Sump area is much cleaner. Next step is to upgrade to an Apex and upgrade the sump light to a Kessil H380 Halo II.

    No quarantine!?!?

Sounds to me like his fish do well because he feeds them well, period.

    Ray's 125G Softie Tank

I have two RapidLED Corona's but they are set to 25%, so they are overkill for my tank.

    Ray's 125G Softie Tank

My Cheato, which used to grow prolifically, no longer seems to be growing, at least I have not had to export any in the last 4 months. I am thinking there is some limiting factor. Maybe iron? I am going to try dosing some Brightwells Iron + Manganese. I used to dose this when I had seahorses...

    Ray's 125G Softie Tank

Short-term: Remove some of the brown leather corals on top left (anyone want some? it grows like a weed in my tank) Cut the gorgonian in a couple of pieces and add to the left side I found two mushrooms from the old larger ones that I removed that like low light. I expect them to grow in the...
