This one was a bit more purple than I wanted, but it is a learning curve. Hopefully I'll get better at mixing my colors - I think I need to add a few tones to get things right. Appreciate the positive feedback...

It would take a bigger colony than the tank will hold to tip this one. The mass is really centered low and right to offset the high left of the cascade arm - the trick is in HOW you build to get that great visual trickery... Thanks for the kind words and a sharp eye!

Color is mixed at the final stage after the rocks are shaped, mottling is old art school water color techniques applied to wet mortar...

No issues that I am aware of - when you first add to a tank it leaches enough silicates to give a small diatom bloom, but that is about all. It stays strong and stable...

The acrylic gives me the basic dimensions as well as a solid building surface (I always cast the base rocks with a fglat bottom to assure a stable build.

This past weekend I made my way up to Napa for a build - the customer lost almost everything in the quake. So, a new start was in order... The Lab goes mobile...

Surprisingly not too long on any of those builds - it is easier because I paid attention in physics and geometry...that and magic woofle dust, lots of woofle dust helps...
