Hawaii snorkeling and coral recommendations (Kona, Kauai near Poipu)

I'm planning a trip around Thanksgiving. Me, my wife, two almost 9yr old boys. Goal would be do some snorkeling while there. Current plan is to stay in either the Poipu area of Kauai or Kona on the big island. Does anyone have any advice on if the snorkeling will be interesting in either...

Bestest ATO out there: give me opinions, help me not build one

I installed a Red Sea ATO today. First impressions are good. The notifications and controls they have in the app are exactly what I would want, including a report of total volume in the day. I also really like the detailed water level visual it gives, and the backup sensors. The controller was...

PIF: Glass panels from Reefer 425XL

I wonder how difficult it'd be to make a bracing system and jig for resealing these. I feel there must be a way to repair these, if you're willing to compromise the visual a bit. For example, if you turned one of these into a bottom rimmed tank, then silicone the seams into the rim. The side...

How to measure radius of curved corners?

I think the radius of a curve wouldn't be sensitive :)

How to measure radius of curved corners?

If we created a ChatGPT bot to respond to forum threads, we likely wouldn't need anyone to respond to anything. That's a pro and a con, ;) These tools and the template suggestions are good. As one more possibility, once you get the dimensions you can try and have someone 3d print or CNC a piece...

    Eric's 60ish gallon build.

I've 3d printed loc line. That could be a good option, at least for the first piece where you could play with sizing.

    Eric's 60ish gallon build.

You might have it on there already, but can you locline the return and route it up higher to the water surface? The first thing I noticed as well was wow that's an impressively high fill amount on the tank :).

    inD Aquatics aF4 frozen feeder

Interesting. I'd be curious to see nutrition differences and fish feeding behaviors versus freeze dried. In theory should someone be able to feed foods that need refrigeration as well, like the reef nutrition stuff or AB+?

    Copperband Butterfly feeding when away?

Also adding for this, I think that's another possible benefit of the avast with freeze dried dumping into the sump. With that the food will come blasting out the return nozzle(s). My expectation, and experience with my frag tank, is that helps ensure no one can be the sole eater (pun intended)...

    Copperband Butterfly feeding when away?

No CBB. I do freeze dried because it seemed like the reef jerky had a good mix of particle sizes and would be a good way to feed a frag tank full of corals. Bonus points that the avast can be done from the sump. I added the extra mysis to make sure there were more significant sized pieces for...

    Copperband Butterfly feeding when away?

I'll be interested to see how you like and setup the plank. It seems like it should work well for what you're hoping to do. I'm using it on my frag tank, dumping straight into the return section where I also have a mini, cheap, powerhead circulating. I no longer use the avast hydration pump...

    Knock off / Clone MP10- MP-40

I would certainly buy a second generation one of these. My jebao stuff is low on features but works well, as long as you ignore the attempts at fancy stuff (their app sucks for example). I use their return on all my tanks and they work great. I use their wavemakers on my frag tank, and would use...

    Reef 3D printing request thread

I appreciate others may have differing opinions, and my primary point is hoping to educate folks who aren't as familiar with the difficulties of producing these things as others. I'm not going to engage further given the tone. Edit: written as someone who also has officially accepted patents...

    Reef 3D printing request thread

Those look super cool actually. Regarding designing and printing, I think there's a gap between: 0. printing things based on found files that are free online, designing commonly produced things, and things people directly invent And 100. Openly searching for unique things people are selling...

    Ecoflow battery w/ Apex EB832

I think the battery is only realistic as a short term coverage while you get a secondary option in place. EV or hybrid with an AC outlet. Generator. "Hope" that power will return. Even a PowerWall isn't going to get you through a long term outage where you need heat.

    Ecoflow battery w/ Apex EB832

Agree. My hope is that V2G fully materializes and bridges the rest of the gap. For example, if you have a Ford Lightning and its charger, it has V2G with bidirectional charging. That means when plugged in it can function as a home battery, and even be used for ToU cost hacks. And it has a giant...

    Ecoflow battery w/ Apex EB832

My suggestion, if you're not overly worried about the short term capital layout: PowerWall is optimal if you have solar, can do time of use electrical optimizations with a grandfathered-in NEM-2.0 (let it run off battery during peak to get paid the most), and can fit multiple batteries. In a...

    Ecoflow battery w/ Apex EB832

I thought about it at one point, but I cannot see myself realistically running a cable through a wall and putting holes in my roof (or side of house) for an ecoflow battery. The solar panel thing seems useful for outdoor use, but indoor-unit combined with outdoor-panel seems impractical. Not...

    Ecoflow battery w/ Apex EB832

Also I would recommend the non-river versions. The river versions do not have a grounded AC outlet. The Deltas do, though I'm not sure every model does. They also seem to have better $ per kWh trade offs. Slightly more expensive though. Finally, if you're going to go this route, you might as...
