    should i buy a trident?

I drain my Trident into the same container that I drain my skimmer into.

    should i buy a trident?

I'm fairly happy with mine, although I don't have experience with any of the competitors. I still have my dosing on a fixed program, but that's me wanting to know how it changes and being paranoid.

    Making my own salt water?

You can still do that with larger systems, it's just a matter of a few details. When I serviced tanks every tank I serviced had either a small marker stripe in a corner, or a specific piece of rockwork that I knew the height of. Draining to that mark results in a known amount removed. Salt...

    Bulk BRS Dosing Pump Tubing?

Follow up, it still isn't worth it to me to make them, but it turns out the bushings that hold the tubing on come off by hand (and go back on by hand), so replacing the tubing would be really easy. Where the fitting was measures 0.250" ID, and 0.0625" wall thickness. This puts the OD there at...

    Bulk BRS Dosing Pump Tubing?

Then how could I justify my metrology tool habit? I'm making a bit of an estimate as the one I have is slightly ovalized. The OD is very close to 0.350". I'm not 0.001" accurate here given my approximation of a circle from an oval so it might actually be 9 mm. Wall thickness is within a couple...

Kole tang nervous - getting other fish?

There are two types of clownfish. A**hole clownfish and puppy dog clownfish. I’m sure there’s more to it, but it’s luck of the draw as far as I can tell, with most falling into the latter category. If your are aggressive swap them out, but I think your odds are decent. Unless you have a school...

Kole tang nervous - getting other fish?

+1 on converted mollies, so long as you don't have nems (they will pick at *anything*, at least mine did). A chromis would stay out, at least mine almost always does. Don't get 2 or you'll end up with 1. A clown might do it, mine were always been pretty fearless.

    Bulk BRS Dosing Pump Tubing?

Admittedly I risk a leak, but other than tie times I’ve clogged the tip and not corrected it I’ve yet to break a BRS dosing line despite having them in service for a couple years. Not bad for $13. I can measure the OD for you tomorrow as well as the flattened thickness to estimate ID, but I...

    Frag rack for 3/4" glass

About the time I moved to a tank with 3/4” glass my wife insisted on no more frag racks in the display. Fortunately tanks that size often have space for frag systems down in the sump! Gluing one to a big mag float would work, but the one linked above is better priced.

Kole tang nervous - getting other fish?

Hanging around the tank after feeding is a good idea. Mine used to follow me or the algae scraper around. Since the move they became skittish, maybe due to all the alone time. Now they alter between “Ooh, FOOD GUY!” and “He’s moving, RUN!”. Almost like their stomach is commanding them closer as...

    Tank moving question.

This does not need to be particularly time consuming. Drain the water into something else, protect the glass (foam, towels, or even cardboard in trash bags to keep it dry). Unplug life support, and move it. Easiest if it stays on the stand because then you can just pick the stand up and go...

n00b question: "Invisible" Dosing with Nano Tank?

I use plastic juice bottles for my lower volume doses.

Trying to connect RO line to my Kamoer X1 pro

Yes. I was concerned you were trying to connect a doser directly to an RO unit product line rather than a reservoir.

n00b question: "Invisible" Dosing with Nano Tank?

Dosing small tanks by hand is practically a rite of passage. However, it does get old, and that’s where automation comes in. Raising the fluid 5’ is a non issue. I think 10’ to 15’ would also be a non issue, but around there I’d be inclined to start testing, especially if the pump was at the top...

    Heater controller question

That would be my preference, at least for the heating elements. Larger has some perks, among others it means the surface temperature doesn't have to be as hot to move the same amount of heat. I wonder if this means the internals last longer, but that starts making a lot of other assumptions...

    Heater controller question

I would be willing to use one controller, but I would not be willing to use a heater that does not also have a built in thermostat, even on a controller. I don't know which titanium heaters you have in mind, but many have no built in thermostat. I've seen a couple tanks crashed due to heater...

    Making my own salt water?

Many higher alk salt mixes aren’t actually stable as mixed. Alk (and of course some calcium) starts precipitating out very quickly. The solution to this is to mix it and use it right away. The only practical downside of letting it sit is some film in your bucket and lower than advertised alkalinity.

Coral reefer’s 360 gal system. 225 display and frag tanks

That is the number I was going to pick. It gets tricky if you want to have high lighting all the way to the top at the front and back and you have a tall tank, but the need for that is easily avoided. I had a light every 2 feet left to right, and 2 rows front to back on my large tank, but that...
