How was the conclusion reached? I'm a bit suspicious of this diagnosis, but legitimately curious how that sort of cause can be accurately pointed at down the road.

    When storing saltwater???

Durable like a Mac truck, but not much more efficient. I ran the numbers a couple years ago, for people who don’t need to hear their tanks (read:when I lived in Texas) even an Abyzz had a lower 10 years total cost of ownership than a MagDrive. That’s with much lower electrical costs too.

Oh, I forgot, not Glass Cages. Their consistency of quality may have improved. I bought a large sheet of glass from them several years ago and the other tanks on the truck looked pretty good, but I’ve seen some really awful tanks from them as well. Also not plug and play.

    When storing saltwater???

Once upon a different locale I used to as a rule keep pre-mixed salt water on hand equal to the volume of my display. As mentioned, keeping it covered is a good idea. If nothing else it discourages bugs from getting in and dying. Doesn't hurt to keep the dust out, but then again I don't have...

TLDR: If you want to take it out of the box and have things just come together the RSR is a good choice. Decent attention to detail and a general nice appearance. Very easy to work on as long as you stay within the constraints of their system. I wouldn't be surprised if Waterbox was the same...

    Innovative marine midsize protein skimmer

Doesn't hurt to try. I ran a skimmerless tank for a long time without issues. If you're the sort that likes heavy skimming it'll probably be a little weak, but since you already have it I'd encourage you to give it a shot if you're unsure.

    1. If you're thinking RSR does that mean you want to go rimless, or because you want a system where everything down to the plumbing is pre-made? If you're happy with the RSR system as-is and want that particular fit/finish they're a good option. If you're the sort that likes to customize...

    Coralvue Hydros being blackballed?

    1. Selling adds for competing products in the same space isn't uncommon. A consumer might think "I want Papa John's" but what they really want is "pizza". If you present them with a bunch of other pizza options that you do carry they might just pick one of those. You can also see how much...

    Pod Explosion in Water Column?

I'm seeing a fuzzy blue box of a picture with a ton of reflections, salt/water spots dripping down the glass and some coral, you're going to have to circle some things if you want me to notice them. I've had pods (or something) growing in my tank. They were in a few specific spots 24/7 and...

Sweet geebus I just can not make this sh*t up...

My thoughts on the OP aside, plenty of other interesting technical fields depending on what sticks with him. EM fields and I don't get along, and for that matter neither does much math past basic calculus. Didn't stop me from going down the mechanical route and doing well so far. Substantially...

    FREE Kenya Trees

Other than the missing xenia and hairy mushrooms the picture in the first post of this thread perfectly sums up both everything I love and everything I hate about GSP and Kenya Tree.

Searching for a better RO system

I'm impressed. I had a consistent mid 400's TDS in a previous place I lived and I thought it was hard on my RO unit. On the plus side, you don't need to deal with chloramine like the rest of us. If you're seeing a TDS of 500 coming out of your membrane one of the following is happening: It's...

    What are these things?

That reminds me, years ago I used Osmocote as a freshwater plant fertilizer. A couple forum members concluded I had fish eggs pretty quickly. Curious how they all appear to have a white tip in the same direction though. A picture in more neutral lighting would be interesting. Dying bubble...

No idea, but I’m curious as well.

    Pissed off at PG&E

I personally go the Ecotech battery backup route as well, but I hesitate to say that everyone who doesn’t have a $170 battery (Ok, a $40 battery with a nice box and a charger) and a $370 wave maker is being irresponsible as that’s multiples of what I had in my first reef including livestock. I...

    Pissed off at PG&E

Maybe it's just that I grew up in a different part of the country, but a couple of these hit touchy points with me. Please forgive me in advance for the rant. 1. While I feel for everyone that suffers a livestock loss, or even the stress of the experience, if you can't afford a backup for...

    Return pump state

I would use the term fouling rather than dirt, but that’s me being picky. You could put a flow meter inline, by that’s just something else you’ll need to fight the resistance of. An easy way to estimate flow loss is to measure the time it takes you return to fill a gallon container (or whatever...

    RODI Booster Pump

I have the same Aquatec that half the rest of the world does. Be aware that some models are plumbed for 3/8" push connects not 1/4". Easy to put an adapter into, but worth being aware of when you're ordering parts. Minor notes: The Aquatecs like to seep a bit at the heads (well, 60% of the...

    Good inexpensive ato?

I've seen failures in about everything (Neptune, Tunze, Smart ATO and micro, JBJ, and those old air switch ones). The most robust IMO is the Tunze ATO. Not the micro one, the full one. The micro one isn't too bad either, but you might have to pop it open and change a jumper if using it on a...

Where can I find some black abs board.

    1. TAP Plastics is the local source, probably the cheapest as well since you don't have to pay shipping. Oh, and they have the rarest feature of stores up in the city....a parking lot! I'd get whatever their thinnest material is if you just want it for cosmetics. 2. My large tank has some sort...
