    Neon Green Leather

This is the leather coral that was fragged a couple of years ago at the BAR BAP event. Every year or so I replace the large colony with one of the smaller daughters before it gets too large. I have three and possibly more chunks. One is about softball sized and the other is lemon sized. You'll...

    For someone to upgrade

If I had the right room.... realistically I am done upgrading my tanks forever. The room has no more space and the floors couldn't handle more weight. I love the 92G corner and 70G flat and plan to focus on growing and scaping while I still have tanks.

What did you get from the Members Frag Swap on 4/14/2018?

This was my first BAR frag swap (and event) in a couple of years. It was really great to see so much enthusiasm, familiar faces and meet new people. I was very much encouraged by @Coral reefer and @Bruce Spiegelman 's words at the conclusion.

What did you get from the Members Frag Swap on 4/14/2018?

I got the Palmer Blue Milli from @Kensington Reefer as a tiny DBTC frag even though I don't generally keep SPS sticks. Earlier this year I was able to give him a chunk back after he lost his original colony. DBTC works!

    bondolo's defunct tanks

Inorganic calcium precipitation was one of the primary motivations for finally switching to calcium reactor.

    bondolo's defunct tanks

A week before leaving town for a month both of my seaswirls failed. Fixed one up from the combined parts and order replacement motor and movement arm. Original calcium reactor solenoid failed the day before I was to leave. I was glad to have left the dosers set up and filled. Milwaukee RMAed the...

Black Friday sales...what did you get?

I have the Varios 4S with my Reef Octopus 170INT and am generally happy with it. I did have to replace the pump a year ago but the current Varios models are much better than the original version; better build and much better controller. The Bubblemaster is a good skimmer body, just get a better...

    bondolo's defunct tanks

I'm setting up a calcium reactor to reduce the maintenance demands of having to mix up two part batches every 21 days or so. The combined tanks consume about a half gallon each of BRS recipe 2-part a week. Seems really high to me but testing levels bears out that that's what it is consuming.

    bondolo's defunct tanks

I added a Kole Tang and Six Line Wrasse to the frag tank today. I considered a minature butterfly but didn't for now. I would like to get another Tomini tang and a fairy wrasse of some kind for the display tank.

4, 5, or 6 stage RO/DI in the Bay Area?

I am very happy with my 6 stage BRS. I have the water saver plus with dual membranes and dual DI. The quality of the water, efficiency and rate of production are all good. I usually order the consumables from BRS but have also just picked them up from Aquatic Collection.

    anemone turn brown!!!

Lower nitrates and don't feed it as much. Most people overfeed their anemones. They actually get all the calories they need from photosyntheis, capturing food is just for nutrients to grow. Incidental fish food or microfauna like copepods generally provide enough to sustain anemones.

What are you bringing to the Swap!?!

I won't be in town the day of the swap (why does this always happen to me?) but have some corals that I would like to contribute. I would need to hand them off no later than September 10th if anyone going is in Berkeley area and has sufficient space to hold them.

    bondolo's defunct tanks

I have completed what will probably be my final tank upgrades–my next upgrade will be "the ocean". I now have my dream 92G quarter round tank and a greater than my dreams 30"x48"x12" frag flat (formerly @iani on loan from @Kensington Reefer). Total water volume including sump is just over...

    The fine print

Plastic and aquarium safe sponge recommendations welcome. I currently use Magic Eraser melamine sponges which are aquarium safe on glass surfaces but have avoided using them on plastic of any kind.

    The fine print

For years I have been using Scotch-Brite sponges for miscellaneous cleaning of tank equipment. Today I read the fine print on the back. It appears they have added a specific warning for aquarium use to the fine print instructions on the back: I will probably continue to use the sponges...

    bondolo's defunct tanks

The eel saga is over. He(?) was safely rehomed to California Reef Company where he will be joining other eels in a display tank they are in the process of building. I can't be sure that the eel actually ate any of the missing fish but it does seem that his presence and habits were too great a...
