    Dave’s 230 Gallon Reef

Below is a picture showing the wall that the new tank will go against. My Nuvo 40 will be moved and turned into a planted freshwater tank by my 10 year old son. He already has a 20 gallon planted tank and is excited to upgrade. The new tank is 76” long. There will be room for a chair to the left...

Thank you for the detailed reply. I am leaning towards using ca media instead of sand myself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Dave’s 230 Gallon Reef

The three bulkheads on the left are the drains. I decided to go sockless...is that a word? The water then flows into the biggest chamber which is the fuge. It then flows into the Skimmer chamber and last into the return on the right. The bulkhead on the right that you mentioned is for the...

    Dave’s 230 Gallon Reef

It’s my new sump. My pictures of it don’t look as good as the manufacturers. It is 60X22X16 (86 gallons). I chose it for the large refugium and Skimmer chambers as well as the 1 1/2” inlets. It also has ports for wires and dosing tubes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Are you still using calcium reactor media as a substrate? How do you like it? What do you do to maintain it? Thanks. Dave

    Dave’s 230 Gallon Reef

About 12 years ago, I had a 150 gallon reef that I loved. It had metal halide and VHO lighting, a sump under the house, a chiller, and a lot of beautiful live rock and coral. My powder blue and yellow tangs were my favorite fish. The tank cost an arm and leg to run and I ran out of time to...

Those are some great looking tanks. Thanks for taking the time to share. I'm sure we all give our tanks a little love before a party or guests coming over. I try to give mine some cleaning love once a week...test all parameters, blow off rock, clean glass and trim chaeto if needed.

    Green Mushrooms

i have a tank full of green mushrooms. It’s too bad they’re not Bounce mushrooms. I would be rich! Is anyone interested in having any? I wouldn’t mind swapping for SPS frags. Even if you don’t have anything to swap, let me know if you want some. BAR Members get first grab. I’m in Castro...

    Where to find live rock

I plan to use Florida rock in my new tank that I am preparing for. I feel the diversity that comes with the rock outweighs the pistol shrimp and crabs that may/will come with it. I feel diversity creates balance and don't like sterile environments. Dave

    Tank Upgrade

I am going to go down to Neptune Aquatics in the near future to talk to them about Crystal Dynamics tanks. Do they keep any of the standard sizes in stock so I can look at them? I prefer the rimless look, but will keep an open mind about a braced tank. I guess the biggest pro of a braced tank...
