First fish - pair of clowns?

Thanks, I am targeting 10 dKH, we'll see how good I am at keeping it close to that............... What do people run for temperature? I had mine at 80-81 F for the cycle to help bacteria growth. Thinking 77.0 or 77.5 + 0.5 for a final target temperature.

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

The tank is in our family room, the busiest room in the house and right next to the kitchen. Anyone use a CO2 scrubber to bump pH?

First fish - pair of clowns?

Nitrite down to 0.25 and nitrate down as well to 20 ppm. I have 100g of SW out in the garage ready and waiting for Nitrite to hit zero and another 50 RODI available I can mix up into SW if necessary. Tank/sump actual volume is roughly 180g. Should I mix up the RODI and swap all 150g at one time...

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

Ammonia still at zero (no surprise there) Nitrite at 0.25 so very close to being there Nitrate at 20 ppm Interesting that the Nitrate has dropped on its own. Great unintended science experiment. We had painters in for three days and it had a significant effect on pH in the DT.

First fish - pair of clowns?

Maroons get big don't they, like 6"? Just checked nitrite and it is down to 1 ppm (from > 5 ppm Wednesday evening), as expected, ammonia still at 0. Getting close and my lights are still like 2 weeks away. I may be hitting Vincent up for that loaner light and a speck of coral to inaugurate the...

4, 5, or 6 stage RO/DI in the Bay Area?

The 6 stage plus water saver is nice as well for reducing lost water and has dual carbon filters. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/6-stage-150gpd-plus-water-saver-ro-di-system-bulk-reef-supply.html BRS also has an update kit for the 6 stage specifically for chloramines...

First fish - pair of clowns?

Definitely doing WYSIWYG given the significant variations in patterns for what are identified as the same variant. My wife and daughter are going to go over the pictures this weekend. I have my list but am not sharing to keep it unbiased. This weekend I will be gearing up the QT tanks to get the...

First fish - pair of clowns?

Thanks again, that is good to know. Some of the pairs we are looking at are like $7 more than buying singles, but I'll definitely look up and back to find two we like (regardless if they are paired or singles).

First fish - pair of clowns?

Thanks, how was your experience with Coral Reef TN and how were the fish? They have a ton of bonded pairs and we are strongly considering getting a pair from them. I'll TTM regardless, but were your fish healthy and disease free?

First fish - pair of clowns?

Found SA to be sustainable aquatics. Wow, they have some very cool looking clowns - and they don't seem outrageously priced for a pair, though not $20 like a standard ocellaris. It looks like The Coral Reef TN sells SA's entire inventory. Has anyone ordered fish from them or would they have...

First fish - pair of clowns?

Thanks All, Our fish list includes pretty mellow variants of these: Wrasse, Basslet, Cardinalfish, Fire fish, Anthias, and then Fire Shrimp. Maybe a blue tang at some point just for Nemo's sake. Hi Vincent, what is SA? Sustainable aquatics....found it. Best regards, Mike

First fish - pair of clowns?

Hi All, Our tank is cycling well (in the tank journal thread) and we are looking to get our first fish into TTM QT. I am new at this so something relatively easy to keep. Family is keen on a pair of clowns and someday something they will host in, if possible. From reading, getting more docile...

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

Ammonia down to zero. Yeah. Nitrite still high. OK. Nitrate now somewhere between 20-40 ppm. Getting there...........and I am getting very anxious to get something into the QT TTM cycle. Lowered the light for the refugium to 5" off the water, which is below the height of the overflow holes in...

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

I actually don't have a lot of room for a large light as I mounted my carbon and GFO reactors mostly over the refugium so when I open them, any water runoff goes into the sump.

Mike and Ashley's 150g reef tank (our first)

Me too. I was prepared to buy a H150 or A160 and Robert at Neptune said that was unnecessary and I should get this one. You can adjust the spectrum so if it doesn't seem to grow chaeto reasonably well on the "grow" setting, I can try it at red, bloom, blue, or in between those settings. It is...

80/20 Stand - can it hold 120g with no front middle brace?

Here is a table for commercial grade woods (2x4's etc). Modulus of Elasticity for structural hardwood (2 x 4 - 4 x 4) is 1.9M psi. http://www.engineersedge.com/lumber.htm The Modulus of Elasticity for the 1020 profile of 8020 (1" x 2") is 10.2M psi. Steven Engineering is a local distributor...
