new tank plans, help me plan it

Since it's just temp, aquarium silicone should work. It has very limited adhesion to acrylic. That's usually a bad thing but in your case it might be a plus. Is the tank you are using for sump bowed? That might make it tough to do a final weldon seal. Maybe #16 and/or some reinforcing square rod.

That chemical shower is a real PIA as far as placement goes. You gotta figure once the shower is functional anything below it could get wet! Will there be a floor drain too? If there is, it would be the perfect place to siphon water to in a water change. What's to the right of the tank? Is that...

I agree with ET, test the locline. I think your 'one draws air' logic is correct but test it! With one higher than the others, turn the power off and see what happens. If it works and you can configure one to never be pushed lower, that will solve the drain back question. To prevent the skimmer...

Lye and pickling lime are NOT the same thing!!!! Lye = Sodium Hydroxide PL = Calcium hydroxide The reason the Lye had poison warnings is because it IS poison! It is or used to be the active ingredient in drain cleaner!

 with wiring, just contact the local inspector! Sorry I had to laugh at the concept someone would actually know what was 'approved'. Locking up the Apex is not a bad idea. It would help keep the kids out too. If you give the kids access to the Apex programming, make sure you back up...

Did you ever get the Apex online? That would help to not feel so tethered to the tank(s). Is there wifi the faculty can connect to? G/L with the fire martial. They made us remove some really nice surge protection and install junk power strips in a computer lab. Made NO sense! Sounds like...

Maureen, is the classroom cooled during the summer? I imagine it would get toasty in there if not.

Tank is looking great! Your Q's: 1. There are basically three approaches to back siphon (or drain down). Check valves, siphon break hole and sump capacity. Check valves are a flood waiting to happen. Stuff grows on the valve seat and when you need it the most they don't seal properly Siphon...

    130g custom build

Renting? Does your rental agreement allow this? Most wouldn't want you modding the house anyway. If you are putting it by a bearing wall and perpendicular to the joists, as long as the joists are sound you should be good to go. If you or your contractor can get under the house and see the...

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

I was thinking the shading started it but then it ran on it's own. Is that possible?

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

Could the good growth cause the bases to be shaded and that start STN? Just a guess... I'm far, very far, from being knowledgeable...

    Kalkwasser

Butting in is expected on a forum. In fact it's not even 'butting in', it's joining the conversation! The issue with Kalk is pH. It might not be able to scale up the Kalk additions depending on consumption. A heavy SPS tank will need a lot of Kalk and that will cause pH issues. Randy...

    Whole house water filtration system

Wow! That seems OVER THE TOP by just a little! :D Unless you have liquid rocks coming out of the tap, I'm not sure why anyone would want that system. Typical RO systems are just a small faucet next to the kitchen sink for drinking water. This can be expanded to the frig for chilled water or...

I don't use Kalk so can't answer your first Q. Soda ash is only the Alk part so you'd have to dose Ca too. Kalk is balanced Ca and Alk.

How to level a tank stand

This seems simple. The floor slopes down from back of stand to front. Just shim the front and a couple of spots along the sides. The back will be supported by floor. If you wanted to get really OCD you could cut a strip of wood to go under the middle of the stand, side to side. You'd need access...
