    Tank tour sign up thread

I'd be down for a later date....like when I have something in my tank to look at...other than rocks.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

I'd be lying if I didn't say I haven't thought of running down to AC, hightide, and neptune to get this thing stocked up...trying to practice restraint has been the hardest part of this build, but I know will eventually work out for the best long term. Right now, the tank is known as dad's...

Forsure..ill let you know how the NP goes for me. It only gets ambient light during the day for now. I plan on turning them on after the water change and brace myself for the ugly stage. All the rocks on the scape are temporarily lol. Once seeded in a few weeks I plan on replacing them with...

I picture you holding up a triton icp test with a gleam coming from your teeth as you say this

If there was ever such a smell as crawling into the butthole of an LFS on a hot summer day, this would be it. Something about that marine nastiness evokes years of nostalgia

Yea, I'm thinking it may have started as purple...time will tell..I feel you on the Tonga branch resemblance..I thought the same exact thing when I opened it. It was a pleasant surprise. The pics they have of it on AS were just alright to me.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

It definitely exceeded my expectations. While purchased for the bacterial value, it always helps when it looks good. From the smell of it, I'm thinking it may be a while till I'm comfortable with adding the first fish in. But it's ok. I think this is part of the old school experience I was...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

The growth on the rock did have some visible die off. I removed sponges that I knew wouldn't make it and cleaned out a couple bivalves with innards still present. Alot of cool macro algae growth tho. Hot pink to burgundy algae lined a few pieces. They felt rather light except for the biggest...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

New shipment of rock came in today. This time around it's the Aussie rock from Aquarium specialty. Packaging: well packed in an Insulated foam box. Nothing could be felt shaking around. Inside the foam box was stuffed with paper and an Insulated bag containing the rock. Immediately upon...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

Given that it's submerged in water, I could honestly say that TBS did the best they could. Sadly, some of the major shippers have a knack for F ing things up... On the bright side, all the visible life on the rock managed to survive and is all slowly coming out

They way the bags were sealed with zip ties may have worked if the box stayed upright during shipping, but were talking UPS here lol. I'm lucky there was still water in it at all.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

Biome building (cont.) Recieved a shipment from TBS today. Had me worried when I got home cuz I found the box soaked. Luckily most of the water was still contained in the bag. The shipment came in an Insulated box with 7 lbs of sand and a 3lb bag of small rocks. I threw the whole bag of...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

Thank you! There have been multiple points in my build where I wanted to say screw it, stock the tank and get the corals in already....taking a slower approach is definitely not as entertaining, but has saved me from jumping the gun and wasting money on things I don't need or end up upgrading...

    Actual live rock at SWA

All good. Thank you for the info tho. I recently placed a large order of aussie rock not long ago..now just hoping some of them look cool.

    Actual live rock at SWA

I had to order a minimum of 10 lbs with the order I placed from Aquarium Specialty...and for not much cheaper than what you're getting it for..thats pretty cool that you could see it in advance..how many lbs did you end up picking up?

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

It sits flush the whole way through, no gap at all, even where they join in the middle. I cranked the gyres up to 80% to see what would happen..(normally keeping it at 40%)..water was pushed up against the glass quick but didn't make it out.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

It definitely turned out better than I expected. I think it was $20 for the plank cutouts.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

For the cutout itself, no. They just asked the precise location of the plank and they took it from there. Must be a common request from their customers, seeing how tight they were able to tool it.
