    Glass buffing

If it's actually hard water, diluted muriatic acid (or heck, even a strong vinegar mixture) should clean it up, no need for buffing. If it's actually etched... definitely a lot of work. I've seen some threads that talk about needing to make sure to feather out any buffed/polished areas out to...

    Clean up fish

my purple tang eats all sorts of weird macroalgae that the bristletooths won't touch... so def mix it up!

    WAV vs. Vortech vc. Gyre

+1 for not prioritizing apex integration for your pumps. Could possibly be nice to have from time to time, but the vortech (or in my case gyre) controllers are great. It's also something you can easily add down the road if you need it.

A tale of two colt corals

Don't laugh, but I've never had a colt coral before. Or ever really paid them any attention. Figured it was time to see what all the fuss is about, so I put two "colt coral" frags in an online shopping cart and hit go. One of them is turning out to be the usual monster - pale-ish base...

    Neptune

So a server went down and some % of the apex units around the world repeatedly reset power to all their connected devices? Is there a way to configure an apex so it functions reliably and can be managed locally if there’s a problem with the fusion servers?

Good video from BRS on Calicum reactors

Okok so I *think* I understand the breakdown now? CaRx: - Trace elements - Once it's set up and tuned properly, it's entirely hands-off for 6mo 2part: - Lower startup cost - Zero equipment tuning - Need to refill dosing reservoir every few weeks

Good video from BRS on Calicum reactors

I'll definitely admit that calcium reactors are cheaper to run in the long run -- but not enough that I'm eager to take on the extra maint: ~2yr supply of pharma grade alk/ca for me is $200ish (so ~$100/yr) vs maybe $60/yr for ca reactor media and co2 refills. The simplicity wins over cost for...

Good video from BRS on Calicum reactors

I've seen more and more posts about carx being 'the gold standard' in maintaining alk/ca in aquariums. Has the tech changed THAT much since last time I ran one? Making sure the bubble rate stayed constant, recalibrating the pH probe, getting the tank refilled was always a huge hassle for me...

Recommend a good "gyre" type pump please!

My tank's running a single Maxspect XF280, replacing a first gen maxspect gyre pump. The newer pump is a little better built (not that I had major problems with the old one - just a vinegar soak every 6-12mo). The newer controller is MUCH better than the older one. I do wish it were a little...

    Custom Sump Recommendations?

Sump dims I spec'd are 36" l x 19 3/4" w x 21" h, cost is ~equivalent to an eshopps sump of the same length, but this way I get a bit more volume and some nice extra features I'm looking for.

    Custom Sump Recommendations?

fwiw - I wound up placing an order with Plastic_builders (thanks for the tip @cdhappy ). Reasonable prices and super easy to work with. I'll post pix when it's ready!

    Closing down the tanks

Are you actually in violation of the terms of your lease? If not, I'm not sure your landlord can force you to ditch the aquariums.

    Best ATO

Oooh... just found this: https://www.avastmarine.com/products/ato-kit Looks like they can ship it with an apex-compatible plug, or you can wire it into a breakout if there are multiple digital devices...

    Best ATO

Wow, a lot of these systems are beasts - fully integrated with their own controllers and pumps. I was kinda hoping for a sensor-only solution that I can hook into the apex to control a peri pump. This won’t be connected to and endless water supply so the concern for flooding isn’t tooooo bad...
