Since you guys like old pictures here is my 120g in 2007 at my first SF tank tour.

No skimmer or foaming. It's about 3 inches below surface. It's a L shape return to help spread the flow.

No stand alone tank....also no skimmer

It does evaporate much more. Once you fine tune the level an flow it pretty quiet

Same, my mini stars never died from flat worm exit. It's the dead flat worms that are toxic
