I've never ran into this problem before. I'm at the bottom of my Salinity salt bucket. Mixed up approximately 6 gallons of fresh saltwater from room temp/cold RO water. Currently still mixing with a mixing pump but its extremely cloudy. It's been mixing for about 4 hours now. Will let it mix...

Diatoms show up towards the end of the cycle. Toss in a CUC (clean up crew) to take care of the algae.

Same with mine, tiny red speck showed up about 6 months of growing it from penny size to half dollar. It popped out 4 babies at about the year mark though.

That half did. It took awhile for the white bulge, I'm assuming it's the mouth, went away, but they are both fully healed and healthy. Did do anything extra but separate them into a isolated box to heal and prevent them from roaming my tank.

I had friends go to the library and borrow the text books, go to an office depot and make photocopies of the pages they needed. Much cheaper, but a PITA..
