Fragging is not killing :)? But polyp extension for this coral is an early indicator for missing traces, earlier than many others apparently.

That would be great. And a great test to see if it changes color in my tank.

I am referring to traces specifically, not nutrients. It should not be blue if they are out of range, similar to what @tribbitt experienced.

Spreading the algae around in the tank. I am not sold, only in combination with a filter or siphoning this out in parallel.

Looks like it's a popular card game, though. I am bit worried about brushing off the algae this way, without doing what John suggested, but hopefully it works for you.
