    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Looking forward to this! Got a pair of meso blues to go on each side of my existing radions. I originally ordered one of each blue and white but Luca called me and talked me out of it saying they might not blend well or look odd on each side of the radions. I went with his suggestion and kept...

    BOLUS vs. Calcium Hydroxide

I got a little used car salesman feel. That does not mean I think BOLUS is bad. BOLUS is fine, just like many other methods.

    Dealing with hair algae

I also like that you can reverse light schedule it. Keep photosynth going opposite the display with some PH benefits. I don't measure ph though so can't quantify it.

    Dealing with hair algae

I am not sure I believe that having algae growing in a scrubber or refugium means it will limit itself to only grow in that scrubber or refugium. I think they remove nutrients though. When I ran one several years back I didn't really measure nutrients often enough to quantify it.

How to limit unwanted coral growth

Tell me more. Does it come up in one piece or a few large pieces? I imagine small chips would fall and grow elsewhere but I have never tried this method. I have used a screwdriver to stab a coral that encrusts too much to help get some branches going.

How to limit unwanted coral growth

Epoxy is easy and safe. Ugly for a couple weeks then quickly starts to look like your other rock. You could even add texture (roll a rock on it) to the top of the flap of epoxy to make it stand out less during the initial weeks.

    Very low alk…

Not a proud moment but on 9/21 I hit 1.8 meq/L. I would not have know unless I tested, the tank looked normal, even the trickier corals. Upped the lime water dose (I should take better notes than screenshots lol...) and got to 2.4 by the following week. Last Saturday back to a more comfortable...

For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

Thanks for the clarification! The fewer the better I feel. I am like a moth to a flame with these type of posts and it just freaks me out.

This one was posted today. Maybe someone will ask for pic of serial # after they get a handle on livestock and cleanup.

For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

That is great to hear. Does your rep know how many of the G1s failed that were reported? Or how many warranties exercised? I imagine they may not be allowed or want to mention that information but the answer would be very interesting.

Coralline Algae vs. Urchins & Asterina

Agree on the algae suppression biggie. There are many times over the years when my clean up crew can't take care of what algae is in the tank. While things are good now, that can change at any moment... A few times a year I siphon out a bunch during water changes. It seems like more appear the...

Coralline Algae vs. Urchins & Asterina

I like the asterinas I have and am also enjoying not having to deal with coralline algae. Harlequin are very cool. My long time reefing buddy Pete always kept them so I would get my fix visiting his tank (same with his anemones). What are some drawbacks to not having coralline? I hear people...
