Volunteers for Open Regional Swap 9/18/22

Woohoo - thought I had another obligation but I’m free! I can help out with anything. Oh man, hearing people talk reef shop will give me a needed boost. I have been out of the loop.

The GHA palace - taking care of a work tank

@Bolicks I’m right there with you except with different algae. Was going to tear down and start over but haven’t done it yet. Pitho crab eats eats eats but algae is faster.

    Rygh's 250 gallon - Rev 3

That does seem odd. Are they all plugged into the same power strip or energy bar? Did they all just stop working with no noticeable warning symptoms?

    There was a fire...

Free boat!!! Runs, registered and yea.. its free

Try to find someone who berths there to get the inside scoop. Have met people waiting decades to get a slip there. This was for sailboats, so maybe different for powerboats.

Hahahaha! That was one crazy towed boat launch! Got the job done, though. Abalone days were cool.

Advice to cut rock-hard coral underwater?

Instead of trying to cut it with precision, could you focus on its brittleness? Can you use a very long screwdriver or the like, and tap the coral (not the rock) with a hammer? Two people, no dangerous bashing that could break your tank, but fracture the stylo? Or, partially drain tank and drill...

    Anenome in powerhead

Good advice for my BioCube that has two powerheads. Never considered switching to a stronger pump. Hmm.

    Anenome in powerhead

Find or introduce a woman to reef tanks. When my husband and I were dating I was a cheap date (not sure that sounds right) - visiting LFS, trip to Sacto area along the River Road to visit several, or even cleaning his tank together, haha.

Does anyone have a tank sitter checklist? How does mine look?

For someone who has tanks in remote location (school) I suggest ordering a Tunze Osmolator ATO today and set it up as soon as it arrives to get it set up just right. Hands down my best tank stability and protection investment. Other members use other brands with success. Expensive, but not...

Does anyone have a tank sitter checklist? How does mine look?

How long until you leave? Make any changes ASAP and resist the urge to tweak anything before you go like last minute cleaning or moving of equipment. Also, if there is anywhere a snail can go such as on a water level sensor or into overflow/drain, fix that now.

[New start time] Frag Swap Sat 7/16/2022 at Seven Stills, SF

Fun swap! Good to check in with people I haven't seen since Covid started plus met some great new members. Went home with cool frags for our newest classroom tank. I bet no one else had their local police pay them a visit during dipping and tank placement... I had called school security who said...

    Ryan’s 40G first reef

@RandyC that is a very interesting article. They didn't expel their zooxanthellae. I was wondering about temp changes during his flight and car ride home. In their controlled experiment they kept the temp the same. I don't have enough of any coral to try this out, but since picking up some...

Reef safe urchin that eats coralline off rocks and glass?

Purple-spine urchins from Florida devour coralline algae; I wish they didn't scrape all of it off. Also can scrape insulation off of circ pump cables in the water if you don't wrap them with coil wrap.
